I love Mickey! That is too too funny about the ball! Just like a kid throwing their toy out of the crib/play pen...LOL, what a smart doggie!

He is so cute! That is so funny that he's learned to teach people to fetch!! We have a Great Pyrenees/Border Collie mix and he is like the GP on espresso!!!

Since he is BC do you have a problem with him wanting to chase cars?

You know we had this problem when he was a puppy and it took me a while to figure out what he was doing..we'd be out on a walk and he'd suddenly lunge toward the road. I looked it up on a BC website and found that they have a bad habit of trying to herd cars. which of course can be a deadly habit. I started taking him out on our busy main street on a shorter leash and every time he lunged I yanked him back and scolded him. It worked perfectly. He does still try to herd friends and neighbours kids .

He now hasn't been on a leash in i don't know how long. when i take him jogging, and he's running ahead of me he knows to stop at each intersection and waits there until i tell him to go. it usually amazes people who are walking by at the time.

That is so cool that he behaves so well. You have done very good with him.

Oh, does he have a job when he's not with you? Cesar Milan always talks about giving the high energy dogs a job. We recently found out that you can buy backpacks for them and let them carry things around and it makes them feel like they are working.

LOL, a doggie back pack! How cool. Gizmo would never go for that! LOL, her job is "guard dogging" and "kitty cat patrol"

                  Mog, here's a picture:

Service dogs (for the disabled) use these and Cesar Milan recommends you put bottles of water in them. The dog behaves better, works out with a little more effort and provides you or them their own water.

We haven't gotten ours yet, but we are planning on getting them soon. Both dogs seem to be high energy. Next time we are getting more moderate energy doggies.

I'm quite lucky that i work from home, and have a cottage up north. he gets a ton of exercise at the cottage, and in the city, i leave him outside most of the day, and all the dog owners in the neighbourhood always stop by with their dogs to play with him. we've become quite a popular house since it makes it much easier on the other owners, mickey wont leave the lawn so neither will their dog. sometimes it looks like we're hosting a party LOL. though it hasn't done much for our grass! He has another border collie buddy named Tilters that comes around lunchtime for 30 mins, and a Wheaten that comes 2 or three times during the day. after dinner it's non stop... I also run 3 miles 3x a week or so. If we didn't have the cottage i would have never got a border collie, they're alot of work when you live in the city...

I almost bought him one of those dog backpacks recently..i may have to change my mind! He seems more of a 'ball crazy' dog than one eager to work...he'd spend 23 hours a day chasing a ball or frisbee if i let him! but it would be cool to have him carry my stuff! LOL.

                      Re: Calling All Dog Lovers!

The breeder that we got our dog Blue from had an aussie that wore a backpack occasionally around a construction jobsite for him. She did her rounds every day saying hello to everyone, and usually mooched a treat or two while she was at it. What a difference she made to everyone's attitudes in the blazing heat when deadlines weren't being met to have this amazing animal around. He had trained her to pick up empty pop bottles and cans and drop them into a bucket he kept by his usual lunch eating area too so she earned her keep! lol

Australian shepherds are high energy herding dogs like BCs but less so! Our Blue loves to chase the neighbours cows away from our fence line. Unfortunately the neighbour doesn't appreciate this talent much so we're always discouraging her from doing it so the steers don't get stressed unnecessarily. She is excellent at scaring away bunnies, mice, birds, cats... and ridding our lawn of moles

I haven't read this entire post - so this already may have been covered. Anyway, when I saw the doggy backpack mentioned, I remembered this stroller my husband and I saw last week at the flea market.

This woman was pushing a babystroller of sorts for little dogs, except that it had netting around the entire thing. Very ingenious.

Why couldn't I think of that and make my million?
