  • please pray for my son

today was a horrible day. his cat george was attacked and died on the way to the vet. what makes it even worse, ralphy did it.
ralphy was in the back yard when my husbands workers came for the work truck. george showed up and sat by the window where he always sits and waits to be let into the house. the worker walked up to get the ladder, which wasn't far from where george was sitting - george got scared, popped up into the air and over the fence. george took off, ralphy after and I was screaming. I got to the other side of the house as fast as I could, but it was too late. ralphy had already bitten george. I freaked out, cursing at ralphy to get away, screaming for george (the only good thing is that my son was not home to see all this), I pulled the phone out of my pocket to call the vet, yelled at the workers to go in the basement and get the cat kennel, all the while cursing and crying, I told the vet my cat was attacked and I was bringing him in to be ready....the worker couldn't find the kennel I went as fast as I could to the basement (somehow I had put ralphy in the house - I don't remember doing it, but he was in the house) and got the kennel - I couldn't bend down to get george (my back has been hurting for 5 days and I have been eating advil), the worker put him in the kennel and carried it to the car, I drove like a bat out of h*ll to the vet, I cried and cursed and prayed the whole way - its just outside of the valley - the vet ran out to meet us and rushed george inside, but it was too late he died on the way. my poor little kitty.
I came home, after saying goodbye to george and taking his paw prints and some fur and whiskers - I am having him cremated.
I went home and cleaned up.
    Then I picked up Chase.
The hardest thing I have ever done is tell Chase what happened. He is angry and crying. And there is not a dang thing I can do to take the pain away.
Please pray for Chase. For George. For all of us.
    Thank you.

Not to take away from the situation, but my cat passed away when I was 12. I didn't want another animal, but I went to the pet store and I found a one legged finch (don't laugh). I knew he needed me, and I needed him. Perhaps something like that may help. I know it helped me to cope, but everyone is different.

Chase cried on and off all night, so did I.
When Chase got up this morning, he cried some more.
I did convince Chase to go on the school field trip he'd been looking forward to - he insisted on wearing black
                      - which is fine. I know he is hurting. He is trying to figure out "why" it happened - and who to blame. I explained that there is noone to blame - it was a freak accident a freak series of events. He is mad at Ralphy, and will be for a while.
I was at first too, but know he didn't know it was George. It was instinct and I know he feels sorry. Ralphy and George were buddies. George would rub all over Ralphy and Ralphy would let him - Ralphy even let George eat out of his dish. They'd lay side by side on the floor in front of the wood stove in winter.
Everything around here feels empty. Both dogs are being very quiet (which if you guys have ever read oa post on our gordon setter Sandi - just does not happen). We all miss George.
I cried this morning when I pulled into the drive way because he wasn't there to greet me - he's greeted me for over 5 years. (crying now)
This wasn't just a cat- this was my fur baby and Chasen's fur brother. We won't ever get over loosing him, there will always be a whole in the family that only George filled - I just wish the pain would stop, so we can remember him with happiness and laugh at Georges crazy antics. Man I miss him
Thank you everyone for your kind words and prayers. Your care and concern touches our hearts and helps us to know we aren't alone. Thank you.
