Yea, our internet service is expensive! You can get internet service cheaper but then you have to pay for a phone line which for just the phone line runs about 39 dollars a month then you add the price of the internet connection to that--but for high speed its closer to 20 bucks a month.

We don't have a phone line so we use the cable services high speed connection..in the end its cheaper than paying for the phone and the connection.

                    Re: MOGS challenge

I made a lovely chart this afternoon showing american prices vs english and my pc would not accept my post.
Also all day long I have been unable to sign in to yahoo - dang it.
Sorry to disappoint - looks like you guys have the exchange rates handled!
Now to look up Norways prices!

                      Here are the Australian equivalents

                      Product $AUD £ STg

                      A Can of Diet Coke - 1.50 - .62

                      A Brand new Audi TT - 89,990.00 - 36,955.00

                      A Cinema / Theater Ticket - 11.00 - 4.52

                      A months broadband internet connection - 100.00 - 41.06

                      A 4 pack of top quality toilet rolls - 2.85 - 1.17

A large beer sorry, no idea

                      A packet of salted peanuts - 2.50 - 1.03

                      Some comments.
Broadband - I based this on an average fee of $25. Some folk pay up to $65 a mont for faster speed, more downloads.
Petrol - varies day to day. This is today's price when I drove past (121.9 cents per litre - 4.54 litres or 8 pints to the imperial gallon). On Tuesday when I got mine it was a 113.9 cents per litre.
The jeans on the websites I looked at were from $80 to $130 so I picked the most common ones. I dod not look at discount stores like KMart, they don't ha prices on the web.
Beer, never bought one so have absolutely not a clue.
I used a alrge bag of peanuts from the supermarket - about 200g or 8 ounces.

OK, I need to edit a bit. Average wage is about $750 per week. That said, I don't anyone getting that! I earn $500 per week after tax. Warwick works 20 hours and gets about $300 per week. Our rent is $200 per week, but it's low because it is an old house. Average rent in this area for a bog standard 3 bedroom home is $325.00. Electricity is astronomical - our average 3 monthly bill is $400-450. Telephone is about $85-90 per month.

HOLY CAMOLIE! your rent is way cheap! We have the cheapest rent in our neighborhood, we live in a house that was built around 1940, it has no heat nor air conditioning and it costs us $625 a month. The average rent in our old neighborhood is about $1,100 dollars a month!

Our electric runs around 80 dollars a month in the winter and around 135 a month in the summer and our gas is 47 a month all year long (we are on an "equal payment plan)

Water and trash pick up is another 60 bucks every 2 months.

Combination of cablevision and internet access is 86 dollars a month!

I resent the cable companies...i really really do. we have satellite up at our cottage and we get a zillion channels for the same price i pay for cable in teh city, and I get squat here! Problem is we have so many tv's (5..not my doing..it's hubby's i hate tv) it would cost a fortune for all the recievers. Our sattelie companies arent offering unlimited receievers..i think they'll give you three for 200 than the additional are about $200 each. too much $$ for me.

My natural gas right now is about 230.00 a month which is killin us. Our hydro in the summer is about 240 but we have central air. i think it's about 175 in the winter. i dunno, i just keep paying and paying and never really work out the monly costs.. i find our utility bills are getting way out of control. but we have no choice but to pay them .

I think the average price to rent a house here is about the same MOG if you worked it into cdn? maybe 1300 + a month?

I jsut saw on the news yesterday that the average cost to buy a home in vancouver is now $1,000,000 That just made me thankful that i don't live there..i'd hate to know what the property taxes are!

I always figure most places that have huge cost of living differences also have different pay scales as well....

Our pay scale sucks here Sadie. We would never be able to live on just one of our incomes! Oh, and my health insurance (just for me) is over $390 a month! That's $4680 a year!

Before I met John I did not have cablevision nor internet access, no way I could afford it and still pay rent! Rent took 1 and 1/2 weeks pay to cover it! I ate my meals at the restaurant where I worked to save from having to buy groceries. I drove the same car for 18 years! (I wish I still had it btw) so I had no car payments thank goodness!
