Re: Finding drunks in a bar -- what are the chances?

Okay, again I say, they went to 36 bars and only arrested 30 people! That's not even one from each bar. I doubt if they're grabbing social drinkers who are just drinking enough to be "feeling good".

One day we drove across the American/Canadian border and around the corner and there was this dirty old man staggering all over the sidewalk with the front of his pants pissed on. Now I don't know, but I'd say he was publicly intoxicated! I can sometimes look at someone anymore and tell if they're just too damn drunk to function.

Some people just look shitfaced when they're drunk! Some stagger, some slur their words. My grandfather did all of the above and once fell off his own back porch and broke his ribs. One really cool thing that happened when I was a kid though was the time my dad was too drunk to walk from the car to the house. I slammed the car door on his hand and he was too drunk to remember how his hand got hurt the next day!

Yeahhh, chalk one up for the kid!

Re: Finding drunks in a bar -- what are the chances?

I'm going to throw a whole wrench into this one....

Actually here in the U.A.E. you can buy alcohol if you really look for it, like hotels and they do have nightclubs here and also I believe in this city there is only one store you can buy it, and the windows have dark tint on it, so if you didn't know it was a place to buy alcohol, you'd never know!!

I can't remember the last time that I've seen a drunk man staggering on the street (probably when we were in Canada). I can't remember the last time that I've smelled alcohol on someone's breath, probably when my hubby had a glass of wine at the dinner table.

I find it quite refreshing being like this, I guess that's where they say "to each their own". I do like the fact that they make it difficult if you want to have a drink, or I shouldn't say difficult, but its not as readily available as in the West.

        Just my viewpoint and experience!!

Wow, we sure have alot of anti alcohol folks around here.

We still have alot of dry counties here btw. All alcohol liquor sales are handled by the County (the stores are owned by the county) and they tax the crap out of it, w/o alcohol, we wouldn't have any money for road, how ironic is that?

I had the same thought Mog. If the government cracks down on drinking and people stop buying liquor (yeah, like that's gonna happen next week) then they are losing some income there. I'm not anti-alcohol. I enjoy a few beers on a nice summer day. Or a spring day. Heck, okay, drinks are great at any time! BUT. We went to a concert on the weekend and the woman beside me was reeking of booze and kept sliding into me b/c she had a hard time staying upright. Do you need to get drunk to enjoy a concert? Do I have to inhale booze fumes when I'm not even at a party? These are the things I want to know. lol

At concerts here they sell beer! So yep, you're gonna be stuck with some folks drinking/drunk around you.

But, they have all sorts of "family" events around as well, where alcohol is prohibited. Our City's New Years eve party downtown is alcohol free! That's why I don't attend! What's a New Years celebration w/o a bottle of champagne?

I don't want anyone to think I'm only against people who drink to excess. And, I'm not talking about a couple of drinks socially here! I have had a couple of drinks on occasion myself.

I'm not only against people who drink too much. I also can not abide a hard drug user!

Geesh, just be glad she didn't start removing her clothes or unrinating in public! Of course, the guys would probably dig that scene.

OMG! Be thankful she didn't puke in your lap!!

Thanks Piasabird! I guess there's always a bright side. Of course now I'm gonna be real nervous next time I'm sitting next to someone with booze breath. I forgot to say, I was also standing next to this guy who reeked of alcohol while I was on the subway last week. At 7:45. A.M. I felt kind of bad for him rather than disgusted. I mean, who needs to drink that early in the day if they don't have a problem? (Okay, I'm not talking about when you're on vacation in Jamaica or wherever - that's a whole nother different set of drinking rules, K?)

I guess we'll need to wear bio hazard suits to concerts in case we get puked on by some drunken concert goers. You never know if they have HIV, AIDS or Hepatitis.

No thanks! I'll just stay at home!

Disclaimer: I am not against people who have HIV, AIDS or Hepatitis. Those are terrible life threatening diseases. Just please don't get drunk and throw up on people who don't have them.

More than likely you were smelling whatever he was drinking the nite before at midnight! Or even, he might work the night shift and his morning is your evening and vice versa.

Yeah. I remember we had our office christmas party on a Thursday night the first year I worked here. I had 6 double scotches. I got up in time and got to work on Friday, but hoowhee!!! I was still drunk as anything. I couldn't do any filing b/c bending over the file drawers made me woozy. lol I'm much more matchewer and responsible now. hee hee

ROTF Mog. We love Scotch. We have no idea what bourbon is though. lol We drink it on the rocks. Sometimes. Mostly we drink light beer (less carbs). Jeff is a really cheap date too. He only needs one or two and he's flying around. Actually, since low-carbing I find the same thing happens to me too. heee
