  • The best of friends..

These pictures are kind of funny considering a vet told us that Elk is a mean and unpredictable dog! Elk follows Jimmy around all over the backyard and has been climbing up the steps on the slide and going down the slide with him for a while now.. but he's recently started climbing onto the trampoline when Jimmy is on it! I think it's funny because he'll just lay there and let Jimmy bounce him. I'm so glad that those two have each other.

Young boys and dogs just go together! They were made for each other. Very cute! Both of them.

We got Elk from the back of a pickup truck in a Safeway parking lot. He wasn't one of the dogs we picked but he picked us and we decided to take him home instead of the other ones we had picked.

He's a great dog. I think that vet got her license from a box of cracker jacks.

            Thanks Aggie!

2big, she decided he was mean just by the "look" in his eye. He was in for puppy shots (oi, he's only almost seven months old and that big already!) she refused to give him the shots unless I put a muzzle on him and held his legs. Ugh.. we never went back to her and never will.

Elk lets me rub the pads of his paws all the time without snapping at me. I massage his feet from time to time like I do for Taz and Moose.

              Very cool!

Yea, my little 15 pound ball of fluff got called aggressive by a dumb vet.

This vet walked into the exam room, and immediately tried to grab Gizmos' mouth to look at ther teeth, well of course she snapped at him...he freaked LOL, (I guess cause she's so ferocious ROTLMAO) and then he and his assistant spent the next 20 minutes trying to muzzle her! It was one of the most ridiculous displays I have ever witnessed! Don't the teach them at Vet school to approach a dog slowly and at least let them smell your hand before you reach out and try to grab their mouth? What an idiot!

Sounds like that vet got his license from a cracker jack box too!

I found this great vet who put our dog Jack down last week for us, she's very nice and caring.. she sent us a sympathy card for Jack's passing. She met Elk and said he's just a big baby. I think she may be a keeper!

Our "fur person" is mostly Pit Bull, with some Lab. She is the sweetest thing. You can touch the pads of her feet and she won't even move. If she's eating and I go to fill her water bowl (which is right next to food bowl), she just keeps on eating.

I just read an article about the Akita breed and they seem sooo much more agressive than the pit bulls!! http://akitarescuewny.com/ARWNY/facts.htm

9 yrs ago, the 6 yr old girl next door had her throat ripped open by the Akita that was 3 doors down (we were in the backyard that day when it happened. it was horrible). she walked up to pet it and it lunged. even cut right through her vocal chords. Luckily she survived. The dog was never put down because it had never bitten before, only quarantined for a week. and the family that owned it never apologized. luckily the dog didn't live at the house, it was being dogsat only..so we didn't have to see it again.

It really depends on the breeding and the way the Akita is raised. My Ralphy is a 118 pound American Akita - from day one when he was chewing a bone, he learned to "share" with everyone in the family and when he ate dinner, he "shared" that too. LOL
He's a talker - Ralphy moans and boops and makes all kinds of strange noises - it doesn't even sound like he's a dog LOL And Ralphy is a no bark dog, when he barks we always check because there is always a reason for it. And what a protect the family/warning bark......DH calls it a dark bark because its so very deep and such a make your hair stand on end sound.
People say Rotties are super aggressive yet my sister has one that is a huge lap dog. I know a doberman that was sweet as can be, a pitbull that loves to kiss and a yorkie that scares the crap out of me with its run up, bite and run away attitude!
Origam, your son and his buddy are beautiful together and they are going to have so many wonderful adventures together! I hope you'll share them with us! It does sound like your vet got his liscense from cracker jacks - noone knows your dog better then you do.

OMG! That poor child. If it was an unprovoked attack, that dog, or any breed dog that attacks a child without cause - should be put down. I can not believe that the owners didn't apologize, that is the least, the least they could have done.
