He's a talker - Ralphy moans and boops and makes all kinds of strange noises - it doesn't even sound like he's a dog LOL And Ralphy is a no bark dog, when he barks we always check because there is always a reason for it. And what a protect the family/warning bark......DH calls it a dark bark because its so very deep and such a make your hair stand on end sound.
People say Rotties are super aggressive yet my sister has one that is a huge lap dog. I know a doberman that was sweet as can be, a pitbull that loves to kiss and a yorkie that scares the crap out of me with its run up, bite and run away attitude!
Origam, your son and his buddy are beautiful together and they are going to have so many wonderful adventures together! I hope you'll share them with us! It does sound like your vet got his liscense from cracker jacks - noone knows your dog better then you do.
It just shows that you can't always rely on a dog's breed!! Be cautious, sure. But don't go by the stereotype!!

Pitbulls have been completely banned in the province I live in. I personally think that all that will happen is the morons that were raising their pitbulls to be vicious, will now just find another large strong breed such as akitas, rotweilers etc and that will be their new dog of choice. any dog can unfortunately be trained to be vicious imo. you are right..you can't just go by the breed.

a friend of mine works in animal control for the city, they're finding abandoned pitbulls in the parks and ravines now...becuase the ban is forcing them to have them spayed/neutered and muzzled..they can't be bothered..so now many idiots are just leaving the dogs to fend for themselves

You're right, a ban on a certain breed does no good. Any breed can be trained to be vicious - its the idiots that do the training that need to be banned.
OMG. That is so sad - abandoning their pets. May angels protect the abandoned animals. and find them homes with people who will love and cherish them.

            Re: The best of friends..

I read somewhere that most bites are from golden retrievers and cocker spaniels, the typical family type dogs I suppose. Bad breeding and bad pet ownership causes that. Also a lot of little 10-15 pound dogs snarl, growl or nip because they're so small the owners either think its cute or disregard it because they couldn't do any damage anyways. A ferocious little chihuahua just isn't as intimidating as a snarling rottweiler.

It's sad about the abandoned dogs in the park. Our two dogs are our babies! They're like little children who lavish the love but never talk back! I can't even imagine how a person could do that.

              Re: The best of friends..

(long) Just another thought in defense of the vets and assistants who label a dog as unpredictable or want to muzzle them:

While some of these people probably are quacks - some of them have probably been around animals long enough to recognize signs of fear, anxiety or distress in animals that might lead to a bite. Possibly things the owners themselves wouldn't recognize, or would dismiss because it's understandable for the animal to be stressed in that environment. Wide wary eyes, turning the head, licking, a lip flicker... In our Vet's office they put pictures up of one of their assistants who had her face destroyed by a "loving, gentle family pet who'd never harm a fly" type dog.

My one dog (rescue) is an awesome pet, but yes - unpredictable. She plays with my kids and can cuddle like the best of them but she's still unpredictable. She was extremely ill and had her fill of poking and prodding and the last time we took her in for shots and an eye infection she growled and snapped once just to snap, not to actually connect. The vet was pushing some tool on her EYEBALL - I'd snap too! As much as I love her, I can't guarantee there's not something wrong with her temperment and wouldn't want to risk someone getting hurt if she felt cornered. If the vet wanted to muzzle her, I'd probably be fine with that.
