Has anyone heard this about Jenny Craig?

I heard on the radio that Nestles company (Chocolate producer) has bought Jenny Craig Weght loss foundation for 600 million dollars.

I thought this was very strange. From what the announcer said, they want to make products to enhance the weight loss program -- so that dieters don't have to give up on chocolate.

I am just trying to comprehend this and it doesn't make sense to me right now. Anyone else heard this or have any thoughts on this?

lots of companies diversify. Just look at all the food companies Phillip Morris owns.

Nestles did announce plans to buy the company for mid 2006 but the company is currently proivately owned with Jenny Craig and hubby owning 20% of it.

Do you guys get the t.v. and radio ads that Kirstie Alley is doing for JC? She emphasizes that you can eat fettucine alfredo and CAKE!!! This said with her mouth full to further emphasize that you can just shove that stuff in your face and you'll still lose weight. It doesn't make me want to join Jenny, but it does make me not want to eat fettucine or CAKE!!! Next she'll be shoving chocolate in there too.

Jenny Craig is just like Weight Watchers, or Nutrysistem, you can only eat those foods, once you stop eating them you balloon right back to where you started, is more low-fat high sugar than anything else

Yes LiR we get those ads. My bosses wife lost a bunch of weight on Jenny Craig. You have to buy the prepackaged foods and they are so loaded full of preservatives they they don't even have to be refrigerated. The portions are tiny--that's the main thing about the diet. Its pre portioned for you so its based on portion control. I also heard that army rations tasted about the same only cheaper!

Yeah, my friend got desperate and signed her husband up. the CAKE!!!! (well, I'm just saying it like they do in the JC ads - hee) was about the size of a small brownie. Yes, it's probably the size one should be eating and if we all could eat a piece of cake the size of a small brownie then we wouldn't be in this predicament, but I take issue with the fact that they emphasize cake and stuff and you never hear them talk about the huge variety of veggies or anything. It doesn't sound healthy to me and they are just aiming it at people who want to eat cake and lose weight without trying to improve their health and make better choices. And boy are they going to be disappointed when they find out it's all just bite-size airplane type food. Hee.

So Mog, is your bosses wife still on JC? If not, did she maintain her loss? I'm sure there are some people for whom it would work in the long run, but I don't think it's the majority.

You know I haven't seen her is quite some time so I'm not really sure. The boss did buy her a couple of tops for her b-day (which of course I had to wrap) and they were spandexy type work out tops in a size small so I'm guessing maybe she has. She did become very active though and she took up hiking and walking and all sorts of physical activities which I know she still participates in, so she may be one of the few who maintained.

Oh please, pretty please don't lump Weight Watchers in with Jenny Craig. They have never pressured me to buy any of their foods. And their core program is very similar to Atkins. On Weight Watchers you are encouraged to eat vegetable and healthy foods. You can't possibly be successful at Weight Watchers if you don't learn how to eat healthy, drink your water, and exercise.



But, if I hear that Hershey's is buying WW anytime soon, I'm out!

well WW do have the little cakes and ice creams that are so full of sugar... I dont know never try them

MOG....lol..Army rations with JC. Nice visual that keeps me thinking how even more relieved we get to have more options and less cash shelling out to have real food.


If Nestle is putting funds into JC, it makes me wonder how financially set JC is doing after all these years?

But that's not the whole WW thing. They sell certain products the same way Atkins does, and we wouldn't want people to think that Atkins bars and shakes are the whole plan.

I'm not a fan of WW, having tried it twice and not done too well (but I think that's cuz my body likes Atkins better), but they do teach proper eating habits and portion control and they encourage eating whole fresh foods that you buy yourself from a regular store.
