I am SO sorry for the picture size. I'm horrible at posting photos!
Our first golden is Haley. We got her for the boys 3 years ago when we finally bought our house. They begged and begged.
Then, we were offered Casey by someone who knew someone. Apparently, they wanted a puppy and not a dog! She came to us at 9 months old with fleas, a double ear infections, worms, matted beyond belief, wasn't house broken and wasn't fixed yet!! We cleaned her up, got her to the vet and have loved her ever since!
I tell everyone now, if you have one dog you have a pet. If you have two dogs, you have two DOGS!
LOL, they're beautiful "dogs" though! Gotta love that big ol sloppy tongue, he/she looks like he's smiling!
I think you're right, she is smiling in that second pic. If you look closely, there's a small bit of dirt in her lower right teeth. She's happy as a clam eating mud-pies!
This is George, who unfortunately passed away a few months ago, but he was 17 years old, and I was 20, so he'd been with me for most of my life. He was rescued as a puppy after being abused, and was the most loving and gentle dog in the world. Loved my guinea pig, Pepsi, and we'd leave them play together for hours.
My guinea pig, Pepsi lol
This is my other dog, Basil
He's not usually that dirty! That picture was taken when we first moved to Virginia, and took him to the lake - he got a bit too excited!!
And that's Marley!
BJS1976, I thought that when I saw your picture too, but by the time I came to post I'd forgotten to mention it.
They have the same nose, it's uncanny! George was really sick for years. He was diagnosed with Arthritus when he was about 9, and we had to carry him EVERYWHERE, but because he was immobile, he gained a lot of weight, making it difficult. He spent his last year living in the basement because he couldnt get down off the deck to go to the yard.
Then about 6 years ago he was diagnosed with cancer. I honestly can't remember how many times the vet suggested we put him down, but perhaps stupidly, we refused. He was never in pain, but then last summer he got worse and his breathing got incredibly difficult, so a few months ago we put him to sleep.
But for a dog with no mobility, constantly drugged on arthritus meds and ridden with cancer, he beat all the odds, lived to 17, and managed a 10 hour flight from London to Washington DC.
I loved him so much, but it was the breeds temprement which I adored. Even with a history of abuse he NEVER hurt anyone. As a young child, I could wrestle with him, put my arm in his mouth and he'd never do anything. He was the best dog I could have ever had in my life
Oh yes, Kimo was so great with kids. he had to be right in the middle, plaing with them all. He was a doll. Yes I went through the same thing with him too. At 3 yo he had a n accident, broke his pelvis in 8 places. Vet wanted to put im down, I said NO. so we built a ramp on out house, and tied a towel under his hind end and whellbarrowed him arounjd for months until the fracture healed. Then last year he broke his leg, they again wante dot put him down, couldnt repair it. NOPE. I sat there for 5 hrs and cried, so VET decied to amputate his front leg. He was about 110, and overweight ofr a tri pod. So, we put him on a diet he was 80lb, and did so well with 3 legs. still swam, snowshoed with us. We were so glad we did it. Well, then another mishap, well, he used his 9 lives. we had not choice.
They are great dogs. I am looking forward to my new pup coming home...He has BIG shoes to fill..
BJS, do you know what the breed/mix was? We never found out with George because they vets just didnt know. He had a labrador face, but the vet blatently disagreed with that lol.
Not that our pups are ever going to be replaced, but that's what I want to go for when I get a new dog
