Re: Do you like your name?

    That's sweet!

Mom and Dad tried to name us after family members of friends and had two names: a female name and a male name (with a couple as back up). If I was a girl, I was supposed to be named after a Great-aunt Margaret. If I was a boy, then I was supposed to be named after a friend of my dad's, Andrew.

Margaret was shortened to Meg and Andrew became Andrea.

Re: Do you like your name?

I thought I had a boys name when I was really young. The only other Karen I knew was a boy in my kindergarten class, although he spelled it Carin. I didn't meet another until I was 18 years old! My name's o.k. I guess, its better than what my mom wanted to name me! thanks Dad!

I lived in a Southern Italian neighborhood so I was obviously the only "Heidi" unless someone owned a German Shepherd then you can bet it's name was Heidi...and I hated the name!....there was a "Hi Heidi" doll you pushed the belly and its hand went up..very stupid..but eveyone thought I needed that or the book ..so I had a lot of them ..
..then the movie Heidi interupted the Superbowl on TV one year ..OMG it became my fault because it was my name !!!

            now I love my name

I've always like my name. I tell people it's made from my parents middle names - Ray and Lyn. My mom tells me she has no idea how she came up with my name. There's not too many of my name out there, especially not spelled like mine. The only thing I don't like is that people want to pronouce my name Ray - Linda, and that's not right. It does get kinda old having to spell it all the time though, especially now since I also have to spell my last name too.

Re: Do you like your name?

Susan. Bleck! Susan is soooo common, I always thought people were talking about me behind my back, whenever I heard the name. Bad for my esteem - I assumed it was always negative things they said. And wherever someone called out Susan in a large place, I'd have to find out whether they were calling on me or another Susan. Plus "S" comes close to the end of the alphabet, and growing up I frequently was last when lineups were alphabetized. (My last name also started with S).

Now is the same, so I go by Sue

I voted "I like it now, but hated it when I was younger", but really, I don't like it all that much now either. There was always a slew of Chris', Christine's, Christina's, Kristin's, Christy's, etc in my classes and it was so bad one year that we had five Christine's and our teacher gave us numbers

I couldn't say my name Karen when I was younger, when I was asked it was like I got this big wad of something in my mouth cause it didn't sound correct. It wasn't until I had two other Karens in my class that it started to come naturally.

I've gone by Laurie since I got tagged with it by a boyfriend in middle school. My real name is Laura Gail. I HATED it as a child. It sounded too grown-up to me. And of course, it didn't help that my Dad called me by both names when I was in trouble! LOL! I still prefer Laurie. It seems softer, somehow.

Hated my name when I was young, still don't really like it. My parents didn't name me after the "goodie goodie" movie star and the movie "Grease" came out after I was born, but they for some reason liked the name: Sandra Dee. There was a lot of teasing when I was in school, but I just laughed it off. I don't know of anyone else (except the actress Sandra Dee) who has this name, so I guess it makes me unique.

Re: Do you like your name?

I don't really mind my name (Linda), but I really get annoyed when I'm called "Lynn", which I do answer to anyway. It was made even more difficult when my brother married his second wife - her name is Lynn. Although we don't see them that often (they live in Kentucky), when we're gathered round the table, and somebody calls out "Lynn", we both look up.

If I were to change my name, I've thought of "Melanie" - Mellie for short (like in the movie Gone With The Wind).

My mother originally was thinking of Denise, but decided against it because, when combined with my maiden name (De Rosa), it would be too many de sounds - Denise De Rosa (think about it).

In grammar school I was the only Linda, but from high school, on, I've met quite a few Lindas.

My mother originally wanted to name me Isabelle, which I wouldn't have minded. My grandmother vetoed it though and the name that made everyone happy was Erin. I'm actually named after my fathers best frien Erin Ellwood (http://www.erinellwood.com/) who is an awesome individual and a very successful art director in Hollywood (it's also interesting to note her mother played the mom on the old black and white Dennis the Menace series).
Anyway, I love my name. I always have and haven't run into many other Erin's along the way. This is despite the grief it sometimes gave me as a child (Erin-Go-BRALESS!)
I won't even get into my last name, which I've learned to love. We'll just say that with the combo of my first and last name I've heard the phrase "Gee you're not IRISH are you!?" many many times in my life.
