  • In Memory of My Best Friend ...

I had to put my dog, Marley, to sleep this morning. It has to be the hardest thing I have ever done. He has been my best buddy since I was 17 years old. Unfortunately his old body was breaking down and he couldn't hold himself up or walk anymore. I know he is better off now, no longer in pain and probably chasing squirrels around already ... but this hurts sooo bad ... its only been three hours and I miss him so much already.

Marley, I love you so much and will miss you always.

I feel your pain Lee, I had to put one down in November. One of the hardest days of my life. The vet patted me on the back while i was crying and told me i had done the right thing. I have only cried three times in my life since being grown and that day in November was one of them. i would give you a pat on the back if i could.

              Lee,

A big cyber hug goes out to you today. I put my best friend, Harley, down last year and it was (and still is) a heartbreaking thing to do. You are in my thoughts.

Lee, take care, my friend. Putting down a beloved pet is one of the hardest things you'll ever do in life. Those that have never had a pet will never know the unconditional love, companionship, and faithfulness that a dog or cat can give. They become more than just family, too. It feels like you've lost a part of your soul. *HUGS*

Oh I so understand your pain. Big hugs to you. My dog is 16 years old and he is also starting to stumble around and I can see he is in pain when he gets up and starts to move. I've been thinking about putting him down, but haven't built up the courage yet to do it. My thoughts are with you.

Re: In Memory of My Best Friend ...

I so understand your pain. And I'm so sorry for the trauma you must have gone through in making such a sad, but necessary, decision.
Losing a dear pet is terribly hard. They put their innocent trust in us, and there are times such as these, when we might feel as though we are betraying that trust... but we are not. You did not betray Marley's trust. He is out of his pain... for you it'll take longer, but you'll have wonderful memories of a very special friendship.

                        Biggest hugs to you.

Thank you all so much. The past day has been very difficult. Your comments have helped ... I feel a lot better about the decision now.

Just like anything all I can do is take it one day at a time. I once heard the following comment, "Begginings are scary, and endings are usually sad, but its the middle that counts." I am just trying to remember all the stuff in the middle. Helps me feel a bit better.

Reading this thread has brought back memories of when I had to put my Sadie down, it was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but I know now that it was the right thing to do.

You were very lucky to get 16 good years with your best friend, and you will have a lifetime of memories. and Marley is in a much better place now.
