Re: Anyone watch The Biggest Loser?

    Wednesday October 08
    Make Your Voice Heard!
I'm developing a new fitness product. My team would like to see what you think about it. Please take a few minutes to answer our survey.
WEDNESDAY: DID YOU CATCH THE SHOW?

The Biggest Loser Recap: All About the Prizes
Jerry had to say goodbye last week, so it was up to Coleen to defend the Yellow Team's name. Moreover, I was now down to five women to train and it was definitely time to get focused. Last night was only half the action of what took place in Week 4, so in case you missed it let me catch you up — but don't forget to tune in TONIGHT for the rest of what went down!
Cashing In Their Prizes: You may remember that in the first week's mountain challenge, the Red Team's Phil and Amy won a 24-hour visit home. This week, they went back to Greenville, South Carolina, to see their family. Everyone was so thrilled to be back together, even for a short while. Phil and Amy went hiking with their kids to get active while they were there, and both were so right when they said that the changes they were making would affect everyone there — in a healthier way — in the future. Another team also took advantage of their prize from the first week — the Purple Team's Amy and Shellay won 24 hours with me. Now I wasn't about to give them a relaxing day off at the spa with me by their side — that's not quite how I work. I took them straight to the gym for some major beatings...lucky them!
In the Tank: At the Universal Studios Hollywood back lot, the contestants had to hang on TIGHT to face this week's challenge. They had to stand balanced on a bar in a tank filled with water while holding on to a handle bar above them. As they held on, the water flowed out of the tank, making it harder for the players to keep their balance. It was a matter of endurance, and the person who held on the longest won it for his or her team — except Coleen, who had to win it for herself. After about 90 minutes, Ali changed the rules, so you could only hold on with one arm. In the end, it was down to two ladies, Amy and Vicky, who both stayed on that bar for 107 minutes until Amy finally lost her balance and Vicky won it for the Brown Team. For their prize, she and Brady received packages from home, and whenever they would eventually return home after their time on the Ranch was over, their family would get to come back to Universal Studios with a three-day pass and a VIP theme park experience. BUT they also got to choose another family to win a care package from home, so Vicky chose the Purple Team's Amy and Shellay, since Amy had endured that bar nearly as long as she had.
Care From Home: The next morning in their rooms, the Brown and Purple Teams both had their packages waiting for them. Vicky and Brady were tearful over a project and recording from their kids, which made them remember why they were doing this in the first place and feel stronger and more focused as a result. Shellay's husband sent his wife and their daughter Amy pillow cases with his picture and a personal message, and he sent Shellay a touching photo from their wedding and a more recent photo illustrating how much he loved her. Both packages were extremely meaningful for their recipients.
Do Your Homework! So I had a bit of a blow up at my team because they were slacking off and not doing what I was telling them to do! I always ask my teams to do extra-credit cardio on their own when they aren't training with me. HOWEVER, all five ladies chose not to, had no good reason why, and I was sick of it. Amy especially got on my last nerve and had to leave the gym...they all wanted the results, but they didn't want to do the work. SO frustrating... I'm sure you know only more drama can result, so to see what happens next, be sure to tune in tomorrow at 9 p.m. ET to catch some last-chance workout action and a pivotal weigh-in.
JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY Do Your Cardio!
On my program, cardio is a great way to get a workout in on the days when you are giving your muscles a rest from strength training. As I tried to stress with my ladies last night, cardio can be considered "extra credit" for weight loss. On the days you are strength training, you can definitely add in some cardio after the weights to boost your calorie burn. Or if you don't have enough time to do it all at once, do your cardio in the morning and your strength training at night, or vice versa — that way you're getting twice the afterburn and expending even MORE calories.

Thanks, Adam. Oh, I just read that Ed went home. That's good he lost 85 more pounds, I hope he keeps it up. I'm still rootin' for Colleen, but now I'm also rootin' for Amy from the purple team.

I really like Colleen-she has this look in her eyes like she wants it bad! I was really feeling Jillian when she went off on the ladies because they don't seem to be trying really hard. This show is an opportunity of a lifetime and her team seems to be just cruising along. I hope they kick it up a notch or three in the next few weeks.

Wow! What a show last night huh?
Heba and Phil have started the inevitable game playing choices in the house! I think that was the motivation Jillians team needed!
Desihue- I agree about Colleen. I have been cheering for her since the beginning. She is doing so well. I dont know if you saw that show where after her dad left she would go into the gym by herself and workout. I think she is so determined.
Shellay looked amazing. I am so happy for her.

Vicky and Brady are really playing dirty. I dont think Phill said anything to Brady I think he was making the whole story up...what do you guys think? Heba bought it hook line and sinker and now they can join together and vote her off. She was clueless! Amp P looks awesome!

I'll tell you what. This is why I normally don't watch so called "reality shows".

The Biggest Loser has a great opportunity of showing how the average overweight Joe, or even the very sick one like Jerry, can lose weight and regain great health by working out hard and eating well. When they focus on this, I can hardly sit passively in the chair; I want to get up and start working out, too.

This last episode drove me nuts. The show wasted more time on "the drama" of the group and less on what they are doing to lose weight and get healthy. They start this BS and I want to shut the TV off.

On the website, there is a clip of Jillian explaining to her group more details on what to eat and why. It was very informative and a total shame it wasn't on the show. There are other clips like this that don't get on the show.

Needless to say, I'll keep watching it but will walk away each time they start the Drama crap. What a waste of time.

I think when there is a "250,000 prize" for the winner of the "game" you are going to have drama. The last 3 who are not voted off will be in the running for the big prize and to be the biggest loser. Thats why people of all shapes and sizes watch it not just the heavier ones and the ratings LOVE drama!.The website is great to get amazing tips and facts. I love when Sherri posts it here and in her journal I thought the age progression testing was interesting and the activities where they test their own fears to prove to themselves they can accomplish what they thought was not possible for themselves was really inspiring.

TMN- The good news is if you dont like the drama you can just walk away from the TV or get up and do Jumping Jacks like Jillian suggests. She stated in the first show that if you get up and do 15 jumping jacks for every commercial break its a total of 300 by the end of the show.

So we're not confusing what we're considering "drama", I don't consider the age progression, the activities, etc. as part of the garbage drama. Someone winning a boatload of money while doing absolutely amazing things with their health would be enough for the ratings. There wasn't this kind of personal drama (i.e.; the personal backstabbing of each other on the show) in the earlier episodes and the ratings are still good. So why inject it now?
My personal opinion: We can do without the garbage dramas. I've yet to talk to one person in my own circle who cares for the "drama" in the show. As one friend said, save it for the fictional shows. But hey, to each their own.

                        I apologize in return.

I simply have huge issues with taking such a positive program like The Biggest Loser and turning it into a stupid soap opera. Most of the shows on TV are crap, which is why I rarely watch any TV in the first place. Least of all, "reality shows" and soap operas. There are better things to do than to rot the brain and soul on mindless junk like those. Like go fishing...

I was shocked tonight when that burrito was almost equal to 17 lite beers. I know my doom for weight gain started at a place called Senor Panchos. I use to eat the burrito, rice chips and salsa and a few margarits'a. I am going to have to go to Fitday and see how much that would be? I bet its close to 2500 calories!

The show wasn't as instructive or fun for me last night.

The food choices were interesting: the burrito and beer comparison threw me for a loop, too. Bob telling Brady he needs to eat something every four hours was another interesting point. Jillian has a talkshow online where she says she likes the three meals and one snack a day, not the grazing all day long. But from what I've seen, the grazing method seems to make huge weight losses happen because the blood sugar is kept stable and allows the body to utilize the fat.

I always like seeing what they do for their workouts, too. Wasn't as much of that last night either. Too much time spent on the weigh-ins. The people are sure looking great, though. Michelle's mom floors me - I figured she'd be one of the first ones out and yet she's a trooper.

This past week's show made me cry because Phil got voted off. I know it was very difficult for the ladies to decide. They are a good team. I can hardly wait for next week, it's looking more competitive on the previews. I'm being motivated by the black team even though they lost less than the blue team. Can't wait!
