Why do so many people do things that make no sense?

Many people drink coffee and beer, however this makes no sense as neither coffee nor beer actually taste good. So why do people drink them? I guess for the chemical stimulation, but then why the heck does decaff coffee exist??

Its the same thing with Nascar and/or pretty much all types of car racing. It's sooooo boring and yet people seem to watch it. Why would someone watch something so boring? I just dont get it.

I worry for humanty, I really do. Coffee, Beer and Nascar, three examples of humanity's strange masochistric streak that forces us to do things no sane person would really want to do.

i love the taste of budweiser and i am also a huge nascar fan.

there is nothing better than a cold beer on a friday night after a week of work. i don't know exactly what it is but i enjoy it.

as far as nascar goes i have always been a car guy. but the racing is so much more than just cars going around in circles. it has become a game of great strategy and team work.


i always wonder why people eat big macs? if you are going to eat junk like that why not eat something that tastes good. it has to be for the chemical stimulation that you describe...

I like a nice cold beer on a hot day.
I like the taste of coffee.
I love my husband who is a car fanatic & loves Nascar racing. It's not about watching cars go around in a circle. Its about the strategy, team work & of course the excitement.

I guess I should question my sanity since I enjoy these 3 things. Oh yeah I worry about my sanity everyday!

That brings up an interesting point guys, our ability to convince ourselves that we like something when really we don't. You might think you like beer, coffe, nascar, and Big Macs but I think people just make themselves believe that so they don't have to feel too depressed at being psychologically forced into partaking of them.

Couldn't the same be said about eating the flesh of a poor defenseless animal? But it's not typically thought of that way because you actually may enjoy defenseless animal flavor.

There are some Vegans that will never understand why that flavor is enjoyed but it doesn't diminish or make a farce of the enjoyment that you derive from partaking of the flesh.....right?

OK whew. I'm calm enough now that I can answer your question even though it borders on sacrilege.

The problem here is that you are trying to make objective facts into subjective ones. It's a fact that the flesh of poor defenseless animals is enjoyable, so you couldn't say the same thing about eating said flesh that you can about coffee, beer and Nascar.

I think you are getting slightly off topic here. Everyone knows that Radishes and beets taste like dirt, that is why no one ever eats them and they are only used as garnishes. This is completlely different issue then coffee, beer and Nascar which are terrible but which so many people have convinced themselves that they enjoy.

I don't want to brign us further off topic but it's another interesting philosophical question: I'm sure everyone can agree it's wrong to throw food away. However, is it wrong to even grow something, like radishes and beets, that you know in advance will always get thrown away?

But, that's the whole point.....this is really a philosophical observation at best. I say that it's quite possible what you think is not "taste worthy" could in fact be "taste worthy" to another individual...just because you aren't into it, does not mean it doesn't hold value for another individual.....Just make a mental note to not take up their invitation for dinner and a show....
