    Needs to be said...

I have been reading this thread and I don't understand why some of the mods are congratulating themselves on going through induction when they didnt even follow it. Some were drinking coffee, eating pizza and others ..well, you be the judge.

Even though I didn't follow the rules precisely (planets were against me or something) I stuck as close to the rules as I could get. It was enlightening to see how hard it was and I have a new appreciate for our newbies now... lol
How can the "mods" give advice when they themselves arent following atkins?m After all, it is the ATKINS diet bulletin board. Why would someone who is at goal or even 5 lbs away from goal go on induction again? that is something that I dont understand?

I guess I am just confused as to why people would give wrongful information to the people on this board. Maybe if someone could explain.. I never said that i am the know it all of atkins.

      Mariposa79,

You are correct. We need to walk the walk.......not just talk the talk. I am almost through with my 2 weeks and have done a clean induction.
And feel a heck of alot better for it. Not only physically, but mentally. I have also not touched the scale......which is a first for me! I know my loss will be minimal, but this was more a refresher for me then anything else as I was not out of Ketosis.

As Dr Atkins says.......Induction not only jump starts your weight loss, it is also a great place to go when you are in a plateau, stall, or have fallen off of life maintenance. It is not necessary to go back into induction for the full two weeks. Only to return to ketosis.

Dr. Atkins goes on to state and I think this is important to point out that making a habit of going back to induction can be dangerous. It can cause the yo-yo pattern of cheating and returning to induction which is not what this nutritional approach is all about.

All of us mods who joined in on the reinduction challange have been on Atkins for many months, some for a year, many still cheat free and many at goal or very near....... therefore we felt no danger of going back to induction.

I do not feel going back on induction once a year can be classified as Induction abuse. I feel it is an appropriate use of induction. This is IMHO. I also think I will do this on a yearly basis even when I am at goal not to jump start anything, but to keep me on the straight and narrow. The infamous refresher course! I truly believe after being on Atkins cheat free for as long as I have that doing induction again is a highly personal decision and that I find is one of the greatest things about this WOE and the reason I will be able to do it for life is that it is so personalized. After 48 years I can say I finally understand my body more then I ever did and in control!

Again, Dr. Atkins states there is nothing wrong with going back to induction just do not do it frequently.

I have decided as I renew many things every New Years, and one of my New Year renewals was to clean up my act, do a good clean induction and to move up the carb ladder as directed and I may make it a yearly event. But again I must stress.....this is a personal decision.

Bren that was pretty eloquently put & I 100% agree.

For me I hit a barrier in late Nov, decided to up the exercise & the carbs but stay on a Maintenance type diet through the holidays, I never did any 'cheating' of non Atkins things but played around w/berries, nuts, & some Sugar Alcohol based low carb treats. I tried to find my equilibrium & found that if I exercise two one hours seesions a day I can do like 50-60 grams carbs a day w/o gaining. The one rung that did not go down well w/me was legumes (other than peanuts)
I tried a lentil soup recipe out of an Atkins book & it boosted my blood sugar & made for the one real gain over the whole period.

I also wanted to see if I stopped the losing & exercised & stayed low carb just under or at my equlibrium point if some of that 'flob' would tighten up. Seemed to help greatly but my chin is still pretty 'flobby'

So I decided to reinduct like you as a once a year thing & it has been good. The 1st couple of days I felt pretty rough, then bang came the energy surge & the last three days the scale has dropped pretty much a pound a day.

I'm so amazed at how much I've learned & how in control of your body you can be armed with the proper information. I've been doing this so long & read so much on these boards my knowledge of how to do & handle this WOL is so much better than when I was starting out.

Like you I think maybe this would be a good once a year type cleansing.
I am so glad I did this.

Three more days & I will get to taste some Atkins Pancake Mix, Cereal & Muffin mix throughout the coming weeks. Hope that stuff is good. Its now all over Singapore, today I saw the pasta & cereal. Cereal looks good but pasta looks a little too high carb for me, there must be something better.
The brownie mix looks almost like a nonAtkins food to me, I'm definitely not gonna touch that.
I try to take one day at a time but sometimes several days attack me at once

Thanks Bren for making the "air" around this subject a little cleaner. Maybe the "fog" some people have had questions about will now be understood and our intention and motives made clearer. I hope so!

I will admit I had some cheats during the holidays and I knew I did not have to do Induction for two full weeks but, like you and skank, wanted to do a refresher course and start back in OWL feeling good and ready to move on with a healthy life. I do not think I harmed my body or hurt anyone. I came here to encourage new people while I was doing Induction again. It was hard and definitely gives me more patience to help new people going through the "flu" symptoms, etc.

Anyway, I'm down between 6-7 lbs. and below 150 lbs. for the first time in many years. My size 14's are getting loose which is exciting. Getting into a '12' is very motivating for me.

I would love to make my goal by Valentine's Day. We shall see!!

I want to say welcome to the new people who have joined us. Please know we are here for you when you need anything.

And finally down another lb yesterday waited to see if it stayed down today & it did.

So at the end of the two weeks of dropping my carbs back to close to induction levels the losing picked up again & I dropped 3 pounds during the two weeks. Of couse, since I been doing Atkins all along I wouldn't have the huge inital loss that comes the 1st time you stop eating carbs. I am very satisfied with the results.

You know I set the goal as some dream number to go for within 1 year the day I started & thought to myself if I ever get there it'll be a small miracle & now here I am sort of closing in on it!

It's like when I do my 5Km jungle runs when I turn the last curve in the path come out the rain forest into this big open area & see that long last straightaway. I think I'm actually gonna do this!

new to atkins but not new to the LC WOE

I realize that I am a little late for the challenge but I am on day 9 of induction and lost 6.5lbs by day 5. However, I cheated yesterday and after finding this site, realize how much damage I've done for 5 minutes of indulgence. (So not worth it) I have read several posts and I'm happy I found you because this is exactly what I need. You guys are a wonderful source of inspiration and information. THANK YOU!! :love
So with my cheat behind me and a new source of ammo...I begin again. I will be posting my mealplans and keeping you wonderful people up to date with my progress.

                    I started at 201.5 lbs minus the 6.5 on a 5'5 frame
