  • Celebrate Labor Day the Atkins Way!

It's Labor Day (in the U.S.)! Time of relaxing, not working and BBQ's.

How do you plan to stay legal for the holiday?

I am barbequeing ribs/chicken, making coleslaw, a crudite platter with tons of veggies and blue cheese for dipping. For dessert, whole milk ricotta and strawberries with home made whipped cream !

Can I come to your house Silly? Your menu is to die for.

My sis will be doing the cooking for us. She is the griller in the family. She said it will be ribs and chicken for us also. that is pretty much our main course on Labor Day.

Re: Celebrate Labor Day the Atkins Way!

I think the Spring, Summer, Fall holidays are the easiest, because there are so many Atkins friendly dishes. I'm grilling my usual BBQ baby back ribs, deviled eggs, cole slaw and maybe faux 'tater salad' made with turnip. I have served every one of these dishes to unsuspecting non-low carbers and they scarfed them up and proclaimed them delicious.

There's always grilled steaks, pork chops, burgers, chicken, kabobs. I love grilled veggies like zucchini and yellow squash. No reason to feel deprived.

I celebrate Atkins all the time by grilling. I grill out nearly every day and all winter, too. I can't cook edible meat in the house, except for a beef or pork roast in the oven. I've been known to be outside grilling a sirloin steak at 7:00 a.m. for breakfast. It only takes 10 minutes, tops, and no pan to wash. It's all good!

                Sunny!
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

We'll be having bacon cheeseburgers, string beans, fresh veggies and dip, jalapeno poppers, and homemade salsa with corn chips (made with corn meal, lime juice, salt, and oil). For "dessert" I'll probably have warm pumpkin with cinnamon and chopped pecans.

we aren't doing hardly anything. jack will probably labor for a few hours at his paying job, i'll be charting and getting things ready for adbb challenges. for eats, i suspect we will have our normal run of the mill food. perhaps some faux tater salad, a pork steak or a lemon pepper chicken breast. we live awful fancy lives in this household, don't we? lol

Hey, as long as there's faux tater salad, it's a BBQ! I love that stuff!

I'm being the bad taskmaster tomorrow and making my son finish painting his room--there may BE no food if he doesn't get it done! Just kidding--he's impossible to live with if you don't feed him. Probably we'll have hamburgers--unless the kids go to their dad's for supper, if they do,then I'll fix me a juicy T-bone steak and a big old salad.
