  • Back on the Wagon

In January of 2004, I went on the Atkins Diet and lost over thirty pounds, reaching my lowest weight of my adult life at 172. Like many others, I eventually slipped back into my old eating habits, and by August of this year, I had ballooned up to an embarrassing 215.

I'd be lying if I said the main reason I was here was concern for my health, because, honestly, I'm going back on Atkins because I know how good I looked when I was eating well. Yes, my health and general well-being should be my top priorities, and they are certainly up there on the list, but in all actuality, the fact that I'm a 20 year-old college student makes vanity a driving force behind my desire to lose weight.

I remember my first go-round, I found this forum extremely helpful; most people I know are horribly misinformed about Atkins and try to dissuade me from this lifestyle, although I know that the Atkins WOL makes me look and, more importantly, feel better. I truly believe having the support of this board helped me lose the weight in the first place, and hope to have y'all backing me this second time around.

Hey Kathryn. I know what you mean about being in college & vanity. It IS hard especially when the vast majority of girls our ages are still pretty twiggy. I have found a lot of comfort or support here.. I think it is helpful especially when walking on campus among the stick figures gets hard.

Welcome Kathryn to ADBB! Yup, it doesn't always have to be about health. Looking good and knowing that you do (self-image) is important as well. Glad to see you joined our virtual Atkineer family. Congrats on being 5#'s down in less than a week. Hoo-ah!
