  • Teachers?

Do we currently have a forum for teachers? It seems that we all have a tendency to stress eat during certain times of the school year! I am looking for other teachers to give me great school-food hints!!

            Hello Teacher Girl!

            Teachergirl,

I teach only online now for five colleges, but I taught at a community college for seven years. Here are some tips:

            1. Pack your lunch each and every day.
            2. Tell people you are on the plan so they will not tempt you with the sugary snacks that seem to always be in the lounge area.
            3. Avoid the lounge if you can--very tempting.
            4. Pack a snack too and keep it in your desk for emergencies-- I used to keep some jerky (not the best choice, but it works in a pinch), a bottle of water and took a little cheese in each day.
            5. Have a water bottle with you at all times. Most of the time, hunger pains are actually thirst pains. Try drinking some water and see if it helps.
            6. When you have to eat at work, check the menu before and if you have to, take your own veggies or whatever.
            7. If you have to take food to work for things, take things you can eat easily. For example, a tray of legal veggies and sour cream with dry Ranch dressing for dip or a tray of cheeses and smoked meats. Then, you can eat without being too afraid.

            I hope this helps!

Wow, Deb, thanks for all the suggestions. The lounge is the "kiss of death" for anyone trying to diet. It seems like it is: the more carbs, the better!! I try to keep an Atkins bar in the desk just in case, and a stick of string cheese in the fridge. I am reading that many are stalling, most likely due to cheese and eggs. I thought eggs were a good thing to have on hand for hunger pangs. Am I wrong??

I am a school secretary and I always eat in the lounge or with everyone else, when they order... I do not. Most of my coworkers know I am on plan so when we do snowflakes or boo buddies I always get Atkins friendly gifts.

I also keep tuna and pepporoni and such in my drawer for emergencies, or if I forget my lunch we order somewhere where it is good for me.

We also started a walking club that is really cool... just some thoughts!

I am a teacher too. I keep a few choices in our freezer. Its hard not to order out when you dont feel like eating what you brought.

I can relate to having a stressful position.... working for 2 commercial lawyers isn't a piece of cake , but no doubt teaching is also very stressful as well!

I would say just pack your lunch and keep Atkins friendly foods with you at all times, in case you get hungry! And don't forget your water!

I am a special ed teacher. I have a self contained 5th and 6th grade classroom. I don't have a problem at school because I just pack my lunch every day. And if I can't, then I can order a chef or tuna salad in the cafeteria. Hasn't been bad for me at all!
I will stay on my diet. I will get healthy and lose weight. There is nothing I could eat or drink that tastes as good as how I feel at this moment on this WOE ~ nothing!

Eggs are fine to have. The cheese is a staller and so is the Atkins bar (for some people). It all depends really. Eventually, our bodies realize we are doing something different and they react by trying to suck the fat in and keep it there. However, nature eventually wins and the stall will stop. At least, that is what the experts around here keep tellin' me when I whine.

                          Lauren,

That is a great idea for teachergirl! I never thought of keeping something in the freezer. Perhaps making a quiche and taking a couple of portions in will work for you!

It is good to hear you are not having any troubles with the teacher's lounge. I am proud of you!

Don't be afraid of cheese. It is really an Atkins staple. It does cause problems to folks who overeat it, but most of us can eat it without problems.
Now Atkins Bars are another story. They are really bad.
