    Just wanted to introduce myself after lurking for a while. I did Atkins about 2 years ago and only lasted 8 days. This time, I have read the book and since then, i have learned a lot about cooking. Therefore, this time I will start with more knowledge and that will keep me going.
    I also had a baby almost 10 months ago and I am still nursing. I want to stop nursing by 12-1-05 but, I am torn between having to give my child formula for a month (I have a months worth of milk stored). While nursing, I have been out of control with my eating habits. I go to the store on a daily basis to get brownies and cookies and diet sodas. I am heavier now than I was three months after giving birth (10 lbs). However, I was overweight before I got pregnant. Ultimately I would like to lose 50 pounds.
    If I do not completely stop nursing by 12-1, then I would like to do 60 carbs a day. I read in the book that less than 50 is ketosis. I would also only nurse at night. So.... this time is for real and I am excited and looking foward to becoming healthy because right now, I am on the road to destruction.

      Welcome to our family sweetpotato! You've come to the right place to get support. Everyone is here to encourage each other as we learn to make our new WOE a permanent life-style. I've been doing Atkins for over a year now. It does get easier as you make it a habit.

        oh and recheck your book Dr Atkins said you will not should color on your stix at around 50 not you are not in ketosis. By his definition of ketosis burning of fats fro fuel you will be in ketosis the rest of your life just not as deep as when you are doing Induction or beginning OWL.

        talk with your baby's doc casue once you aren't her primary source of nutrition it doesn't matter if you are atkinsing or not.
        it is not the ketones that are bad ( be you didn't know neonatal brain tissue grows from ketones) it is the body's reaction to loss of weight that is bad cause your body value's your body over your baby's and will shut down milk proiduction which is why preggos and nursing mothers shouldn't be in weight loss phase of Atkins or any diet for that matter unless their docs are suppervising.


        Remember you got your whole life to lose those pounds and become the healthier smaller person you want to be but only one shot at getting it right wioth your klittle one's nutrition during this critical growth time.
