  • This Is My First Time

Hello everyone, Me and my husband decided a few weeks ago to try atkins. We said we'd start after the holidays, but i went ahead and started yesterday. I have very little luck with any diet that i have tried and trust me, i have tried just about every one of them and have a cupboard full of diet pills that have all failed.
I have spent the last few nights looking thru this board and found that you guys have your own little community and support system right here, i was very impressed.
Heres the story of how i got so fat...I ended up pregnant with #4, four months after having my tubes tied, naturally i was furious that the procedure failed, and fought the whole process, along with that i ate everything in sight and went over 200 pounds. It tooks around 6 months to finally lose the baby fat and then i was diagnosed with severe rhuematoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. i was always tired and sore and wasnt able to exercise like i had in the past. so here i am 3 years later, carrying around with me 40 extra pounds from my inability to exercise and eat right.
To make matters worse, my dr's took me off work about 15 months ago, so i rarely leave the house. I love to bake and that fills up alot of time, also help me put on all this weight. I never did well with having alot of time on my hands, and recently I have filled the voids with eating way too much.
This is my last hope in losing this weight, and i have heard and read great things about this program, hopefully i have the will power to stick with it. I am on day 2 and so far doing ok. wish me luck, i am gonna need it!!

First, glad to have you here and I hope you find this place as supportive to get you to goal as I have. Second, congratulations on starting Atkins yesterday -- I really believe you made a wise decision. No other diet help me put down the food and control what went into my mouth like this diet. My appetite was controlled enough that I helped with most of the baking for holidays, so the joy of cooking can still be there as the temptation to actually eat your creations dissipates. Make sure you stop by our Induction and FAQ Forums as the stickies posted will help answer any lingering questions you might have after completing the book.

Re: This Is My First Time

Lori, you'll do find here. You'll probably have to change your love of baking to learning how to convert your favorite recipes to low carb versiions, but that can be fun. This WOE is really good because those foods on low fat diets are not only good for us, but we can eat them freely. No more fat-free yuck and no more anything that saids DIET
Hint, measure yourself, chest, waist, hips, thighs and upper arms. (Then don't do like I did and forget where I put it)
Check out fitday.com. Its a great place to find out where your carbs are.
Make sure you understand the induction rules. It the food isn't on the list, don't let it go in the mouth.
So, think about a great buttery, highfat cheese omelet for breakfast with bacon if you like.
A full of mayo, tuna salad for lunch, or how about a taco-less taco salad with sour cream and salas
Steak and grilled veggies for dinner. Oh yum.

        41 pounds down and counting

                      Lori, Welcome!
                      The tickers are at www.tickerfactory.com
This is the best weight loss, and maintenance, plan ever. I have lost 23 kgs (50 lbs) in 16 weeks. I feel fantastic. My aches and pains (ankles, knees, hips and back) are lessening or disappeared. I have more energy. I started exercising and am going to the gym 5 mornings a week. I get up and am eager to face th day, rather than depressed and tired.
                      Tips:
                      1. Eat lots of fresh food - try to keep off the processed low carb stuff.
                      2. Keep a journal. I had an exercise book but bought myself a 2006 diary specially for my Atkins journal. All food and exercise and some notes on my moods and what happened on any given day go in it.
                      3. Come here often - if you strike a problem, odds are someone else has had it too and there'll be some advice. If not, post it and you'll get LOTS of good advice.

You can do it with this WOE. Best of luck.

Just be patient and weigh your self at the end of the 14 day induction period.

My advice is don't weigh yourself until then. (I know this is very hard to do!)
