  • New Here

Just thought I would say hi! I tried Adkins this same time last year and a couple of times during the year but never made it past my first week. I have ZERO family support (everyone tries to get me to eat EVERYTHING) so this time I decided to join the forum and let you guys be my support group!

I looked through the before/after pics and many truly gave me hope and inspiration!

I weighed in this morning at 267# and I am 6'2". I used to look pretty good at 205# for my frame, so that is my target weight. I want to be able to comfortably dress nice again instead of wearing sweat pants and tshirts all the time.

Hardest thing I think for me is going to be getting enough water and cutting out the caffeine. Water before never touches my mouth except when brushing my teeth, but I got a couple of cases of bottled water and already on my second one today. In the past it was mostly tea and Diet Cherry Pepsi (of Dr. Pepper if they were out) that I drank. I am anticipating some wicked caffeine withdrawals!

I know if I can just get through induction I can do it!

    Re: New Here

Hi! I'm also new to the Atkins Diet Bulletin Board and it is so good to see all the wonderful support this board provides. I have been eating low carb for many years and eating about ten meals a day, but have put on weight. I eat lots and lots. It's time to get to work eating less and getting more exercise.

      Hey there and welcome!

It's too bad about your family because it helps so much to have their support. Maybe they'll come around when you show them how much better you look and feel while doing Atkins.

Keep coming back here often because we have oodles of support to offer someone.

Hi Wxguy, welcome to and back to Atkins!

Sorry to hear that you don't have support at home, but your right you can get all you need here on the board.

Since you've done Atkins in the past, I'll assume you have the DANDR book, right? If not, you'll want to pick on up!

          Hi

I too am new to the Atkins Bulletin Board. I have spent a few hours today reading all the great threads and the awesome support from all of you. I had a very active job and have since quit that job and returned to College. And yes I have spent a great amount of time sitting on my...ummm ya u know as well as eating things that I shouldn't be . So I have decided that this is the time of year to smarten up and get my act together. I look forward to using this forum thoughout my travels through the Atkins Diet.

          Happy New Year

                    Re: New Here

No, the family won't be coming around to this. The wife is thin as a stick and rarely eats anything anyway and the daughter is thin too but eats everything in site. Honestly, they were key factors in me not being able to go at this before. I have finally decided that no matter what, this weight has to come off, so basically now I will just be cooking stuff for myself to eat and be on an "independant" food schedule from everyone else.

I would love to get into some sort of workout program somewhere, but we live in a small town and nothing exists here for that. Working out at home is NOT an option of any kind. I have thought about buying a bike and just riding a lot. I have heard the rehab part of our tiny little hospital here lets you pay a fee to use the equipment, I am checking in to that tomorrow. In the end, I am thinking the biking might be the way to go, although I would like to build up a little muscle in my chest to replace those "man boobs" I have now LOL <gross!>. Ah well, you guys here going through it know what I mean!

The wife says I am really not all "that" overweight, but I can tell I am. I used to were wranglers all the time and dress nice. Anymore, I can't stand to wear anything but sweat pants and T-shirts. I have to hold my breath to lean over to tie my shoes. I am starting to have pain in various joints. I KNOW the weight is affecting me and I hate it and want it gone! I tried to go hiking with a friend about a year ago and it darn near killed me. I want to be able to do, and have the energy to do, regular things again, and I want to fit comfortably in those size 32 wranglers again!

                      Re: New Here

Well, at least you can cook...so that's good! My DH and DS aren't following Atkins, but my DD does follow the plan with me (most of the time). I've found that the majority of the time I can use the same basic ingredients for dinner and make a few changes so everyone is happy. And if they want something that we can't have, I just pop a couple of pieces of chicken out for us...perfect!

Oh, the biking is a great choice, and so is the hospital equiment. It would be great to do both if you can, variety really helps keep it fresh and interesting!

It's pretty hard when they are naturally thin and you are not. My DH isn't doing this either, but I'm lucky, he's very supportive. At the evening meal which we share he usually either cooks his own or makes some rice or potatoes to add so he is not hungry.

Walking and biking both sound like good options - you can start small and slow and build it up. Could you ride your bike to work - this is always a good option if itis not too far and gets you 2 exercise sessions per day!

There is a thread here about effects of overweight and lts of us, including myself, have been through the feel awful when you try to get to your feet! Plus neral breathlessness and painful joints. For me it was ankles, knees, hips and back, but the 50lb loss has made a world of difference.

Good luck with it, we'll give you lots of support.

Walking is great exercise, also. Although I prefer biking. I biked over 500 miles last summer and I hope to do lots more this coming year. Some rehab places will let you use their equiptment for a small fee, also. I'm going to look into one tomorrow. I don't want to sign any yearly contract because I really like to exercise outside the best.

                          Hang in there!

I managed to severely spain both of my ankles this past year, one of them twice and so bad I thought I had broke it from the loud snap. I was on crutches for nearly a month. I can't help but think it would not have been nearly as bad without that extra 60+# on there.

I actually work from home as I have several internet businesses and only one that takes me out at all.....another one of my problems...I work on the computer ALL DAY.

What about one of those little pedaller things under the desk? I've never used one but I had an elderly relative who used to use one from her armchair in front of the TV - she was too frail to walk, and used 2 sticks - and she did lose some weight!
