  • Feeling discouraged but not quitting

I started induction 2 weeks ago and was doing well. Also, I started working out for the past two weeks at Curves. My weight has actually went up a pound though I have been sticking with things and drinking the water. I am assuming that maybe the exercise is affecting this weight loss. Saturday I walked for almost 2 hours on the beach in substitution for exercising at Curves. Has anyone had this happen to them? I am not going to let this be an excuse to quit. At least even if I never lose the weight, I will be physically fit soon.

Don't get discouraged! Muscle weighs more than fat. Stick with it! You'll get there!

Your “symptoms” is actually not that uncommon. If you’ve stuck to the WOE, drunk your water and did everything by the book, then the only thing that can do this is the exercising. I’ve had this happen to me. When I started induction, I also started an exercising program. I did not gain any weight, but I also did not loose until about my 4th week.

I was also ready to give up, but then I got this very good advice here on ADBB.

Do not weigh yourself. Rather take your measurements and go according to that. I am a scale addict and I can tell you now, that weighing yourself every day will only discourage you and make you depressed. So rather go for that tape measure!!!

Good luck to you and don’t give up. Those pounds will eventually start coming down.

      Keep up the good work.

Thanks Tania, I am a scale addict too. In fact I even went out and bought the body fat scale and was weighing every morning. I guess I should refrain from doing this daily and maybe 1 a week or every two weeks. Also, I noticed I feel very bloated and probably ready to experience PMS.

Sometimes posting a menu for reveiw helps many people don't realize what is not really included.
This does happen to people often when they start exercising,or becuase of menu.
Such as proceesed foods will stall weight and even make you gain i.e. lunch meats. hotdogs, suasage, many bacon , ect..............
Welcome to this woe it is so wonderful.

              Hi

I have also been on atkins for 2 weeks and 3 days. i am doing some excercise for 1 and half hours 5/6 a week. and i have exactly the same problem, not lost any at all, not in scale nor in inches. i was rather dissapointed and was ready to give it up. i then found out about this forum and joined for the past 4 days. there are alot of supporters out there giving you lots and lots of advice and letting you know where you are going wrong. from all the advice i got i have gather to increase my water intake and fat as i was grilling and baking all my protein rather than frying.

anyway its nice to know there are people like you who are not ready to give, giving me that extra encouragement that even i should keep going although.

Lets see what happens in a couple of weeks time.

I also don't lose weight right away but I notice that by measuring my inches I do see them slowly going down. Don't get discouraged. Stick with it and before you know it all of a sudden you will see the weight fallen off!

Hi Cgrant and welcome to and Atkins.

It was mentioned in an earlier post, but did you measure yourself? Also, do post a few days of menu's in the Review My Menu forum. Someone can look at it and let you know if you need to adjust anything.

But, likely it could be the combination you mentioned, new to exercise and your cycle. Just keep at it, drink your water, check out the various forums to continue to educate yourself. Don't give up!

Hope to see you around the board!

Re: Feeling discouraged but not quitting

Thank you everyone for the support. It means alot. When I joined Curves on January 17th, they took measurements, so February 17 they will measure again and I feel there will be some loss as I exercise 3-4 days a week for 45 minutes and on weekend try to take long walks on beach. I like walking on the sand better than concrete for exercise. It seems to take more effort to walk. I drink alot of water and perhaps I have eaten a few items of high salt content. Walmart has smoked almonds that seem to be loaded with salt. I think I will stop eating those and switch to another brand that is less salty. Sometimes I eat lunch meat but not on a daily basis. Those probably have high salt too.
                      I'm working on it.

This worked well for me....Pick out a period of time{4mos.6 mos or 10months}and honestly do everything this way of life calls for. Dedicate this time to your new you.Forget the scale, and go for control of your life. After this period of time, then take an honest look at yourself and your new habits. I bet you will see changes that will make you cry for joy. Best of luck and stay in touch with this board.

Exercising, builds muscle, which is heavier than fat, but eventually everything will tone up, and the weight loss will continue, as long as you're following plan. Make sure you continue to drink water, and use fitday.com, to record your food intake, then for sure you will know that you are ontrack with what you should be eating. Keep up the great work, and don't stop doing what you're doing, results will soon come!
