Re: Saying hello andd loking for support

Cher, Thank you! I had already gone through induction (4 weeks) and been on OWL for about two weeks when I took my "Before" picture. I took the "before" the night I started weight training. The "After" was six weeks later. I only lost 12 lbs between the before and the after pictures. I'm hooked on the weight lifting stuff. It's really helping me. In those pictures I weighed around 230 lbs. I've since lost another 8 lbs. I do have cellulite on the backs of my thighs and my inner thighs in the front are like jello. I have a little bit of jiggly in my lower stomach too, but my suit holds it in LOL

You'll get alot of those same benefits from pilates because it is strength training using your own body weight, plus the flexibility.

sweetcher, no, luckily I have never had problems with headaches, but have had terrible back problems for 20 years....sometimes I couldn't even get up out of bed or do anything...any way, I have read some on what problems they have successfully treated and it's amazing, migraine headaches in particular is something they can help alleviate many times

Personally, I would go to a chiropractor before a regular doctor. Best of luck to you.

Re: Saying hello andd loking for support

Thanks for the compliment Sweetcher. My mom gave me the idea, suggesting doing like the yoplait? commercial where the gal hangs the itsy-bitsy-teensy-weensy yellow polka-dot bikini on her wall for motivation. This is better - when I reach mini-goal I get a new onepiece; goal - the bikini. I bet the meds are causing headaches, too. I had to do meds & injections for 4 years and it was so horrible I got suicidal. Weight & depression & terrible malaise with headaches & fatigue - felt like an 80-year old. Thank god I'm off all of it now!!!

Biscuit - is it possible that the back problems increased as you gained? About a year ago I was starting to have problems with plantar fasciitis (sp?) and sacroiliac joints (lower back) plus trouble sleeping due to numb arms, and all of these have gotten significantly better as my weight has decreased. There are also some useful posture, stretch and exercises; even chiropractic adjustments you can do yourself; on the internet.

Re: Saying hello and looking for support

Joy, the weight training must be the most impactful. Everybody that I've seen pictures of who uses weight training as their core exercise program really looks great. I can't believe how much progress you've made in such a short time. I should take a before and interim pictures just like you did so I can see my own progress. It's a great way

Biscuit... just the fact that it has helped your back problems is great. Especially after 20 years of pain! I have both, so if it could help either one without medication, I would be really happy.

Susan, I think I need to set a goal like that too. I have a picture of my yorkie and I from 6 months ago when I weighed around 130 and that's on the computer...so, it's a helpful reminder. But, I think I'll find one like yours in a bikini with a body that's really toned. That way it'll keep my exercise motivation high! I'm concerned about that whole rebound medication syndrome, I think that could be increasing the headache pain too.

I'm restarting Day one of induction again. I had a teaspoon of peanut butter last night at midnight. I'm sure I was under 20 grams yesterday (I need to log into fitday) but, peanut butter isn't allowed on induction! So, I'm confessing. I need to go and purchase some induction late night snack foods. I just wanted to put a piece of meat or cheese in my mouth but I didn't have any quick foods to eat, so I ate a teaspoon of peanut butter. I want a clean induction period. So, I'm not going to beat myself up over this. It's Day one again. I'm going shopping today so there's no excuses. I'll make sure I have plenty of LC snacks around.

I also didn't join one of the induction thread's and I really need to do that. Susan I noticed that you did an induction challenge but I couldn't find one. Can I just start one?

Re: Saying hello andd loking for support

Susan - thanks for the information on the induction challenge. I'm so glad that you're doing it too! I'll be a great support. I need to go around the board so I can find it. I'm still doing induction, but that'll be my official challenge. I'm a little stressed that I'm not going below the 189 mark. I can't believe that 1 teaspoon of sugar free peanut butter would hold me back. I really need to stay off the scale and put big stars on a calendar for every great day that I have on program and every day that I exercise.

BTW, Biscuit and Susan... I don't think the 50 pound weight gain has helped my back. The back pain really became significant when the weight increased. So, I think there's definitely a correlation for me!

Saty- I'm so sorry I didn't get to thank you yesterday for stopping by and saying hello. I appreciate the encouragement and support that i've gotten here. Congratulations on your 13 pound weight loss. It must feel great to be in the 160's again. I can't wait to be there. Hopefully one day soon.

Re: Saying hello andd loking for support

Cher...I had bumps in the road during my first two weeks in induction. I did induction for 4 weeks, so the 2nd two were clean and then I went ahead and moved into OWL adding veggies first. It really helped doing that so that when I needed that spoonful of peanut butter, I didn't have to feel guilty about it. Or when strawberry season came in, I didn't have to feel guilty about that either. Sounds like you are on the right track. One spoonful of peanut butter isn't a killer...it wasn't as bad as having the carbage...and it wasn't as bad (IMO) as having the "frakenfoods" either!! So, don't really beat yourself up about it too badly. Kudos for you for wanting to do a clean induction too....setting yourself up for SUCCESS! My hat's off to you!

Re: Saying hello andd loking for support

Joy, thanks for sharing a little about your first 4 weeks. I was just thinking that it originally took me about 4 years to get my first 2 weeks of induction in the first time. OMG, this has got to be better than that! At lest I stayed for 4 years and loved it. So, that history gives me so much to look forward to this time.

I'm so happy... finally a little break in my weight loss this morning, yea. I hit 186! It's proof that I can do it despite the meds. But, I've cut down considerably. And, except for the 1 teaspoon of sugar free peanut butter... this week i've been really good. I'm starting the induction challenge on May 1st... so, that should be a great motivator. I'm just really happy that I'm losing something. I saw a person that I know really well, but just haven't seen for like 4-5 months and he didn't recognize me at all. He just said, "oh you look so different, I didn't recognize you at all". I was so embarrassed. I literally could have walked by him and said nothing. He didn't recognize me at all. I wanted to explain, but I just sucked it up, smiled and said I know I've gained a lot of weight. I just wanted to die that I even said hello. He's a good friend of my X fiance's ( who's a weight fanatic). I introduced him to my current fiance. Who always just says you're beautiful don't worry about it. But, it was really hard. Oh well. I can't hide out any more. This is me now.

I understand how that would be hard, but the important thing is that you are doing something about it! Look at how well you have done and your ready to commit yourself to two more weeks of induction! Soon enough you will be turning heads for all the right reasons, and there will be no looking back. The greatest thing of all is that you are embrassing a healthy life style that is going to not only improve the way you look, but completely revamp the way you feel.

                            Saty,

Thanks for the encouragement. I keep telling myself that a year from now, I'll look back and I'll be really close to goal again. I think it's important to be happy at the weight that I'm at or it'll be tough to lose the weight. I realized that I've been hiding from everyone because I've been so embarrassed, and I just can't do that. I need to love and except myself the way that I am, but work on achieving the goal that I want. I think both are really important.

I changed my goal from 140 to 145 so that I can get to goal sooner. I should probably set it at 150 like I did the first time and change it once I get to 150. I never had a goal to reach my high school weight of 130 last time but it just happened. My physical Therapist is saying that would be too small, my current fiance is saying I was just skin and bones then. I think it was a great size. I'm 5' 81/2 and at 150 I wear about a size 6 - 8. So, I think that 145 would be a fine interim goal for right now. That would place me at a size 6. I still wouldn't be able to wear most of my clothes, but I would feel a lot better about myself.

Cher, as I'm sure you've noticed in my tickers and my signature that I have set mini-goals. Of course, my ultimate goal is to get down to about 185, but my first ticker is set to 218 and my new one will be at 199. When I get close to 199, I'll add another ticker to my ultimate goal. This way, I do have my "end of the road" vision, but I've set my immediate sites on goals that are quickly attainable. Kind of like education, you ultimately want a PhD, but first you go for an associates, then a bachelors, then the masters and then the PhD.

These mini-goals also don't HAVE to be weights on a scale. They could be inches lost or clothing sizes or whatever else. I also don't set time frames on the goal. Whenever I get there, I get there. That way I'm not setting myself up for disappointment, or perhaps try to get to those goals in unrealistic time frames.

That's great advice VR! I, myself have been thinking about setting a mini goal at 150. I'm not sure how long to give myself to be there, maybe a month? I just think it's very important to have something to strive for. That's the same reason I give myself goals with exercise and water also!

Cher, I'm almost your height. I'm not sure what I will look like at my goal of 135, but I know I can always decide once I get there. Right now I'm enjoying watching my size 12 blue jeans fall off and thinking about how nice it will be to be a 10!
