  • Serious Depression!

I am so depressed! I feel like I took 1 step forward and 10 steps back! This is about the 4th time I have "OFFICIALLY" started Adkins. There always seems to be a birthday or cookout or just no will power that kicks me off. I need help!

      Re: Serious Depression!

Welcome Sframe! Many people have the problem of starting and then restarting. It does take some determination to stick to it, but you can help yourself along by having things ready to eat in the house and along with you when temptation strikes. Make a package of bacon ahead of time or boiled eggs. Take some string cheese along when you're out and about. I know there is a bit of sadness when you realize that you can't participate in the cake or what not but then you need to look at why you're trying to do atkins in the first place. And to be honest with you, if you stick to the atkins plan you won't feel deprived or actually miss those things anymore, the cravings will disappear i promise! Good luck to you!

Thanks for your support! I dont understand why it seems like it is not friends are not enough to keep me on track. We have a camping trip coming up this weekend and I am dreading it! I know we will be going swimming and I cant stand the thought of someone looking at me and judging me in a bathing suit. For some reason that is the kind of thing that kicks me off of the plan!

            Re: Serious Depression!

Hiya Sframe and welcome back to Atkins and ADBB!

Try moving those negative thoughts out of your head! You're dwelling on those thoughts and not having fun!

Think about the good things you're doing for your body, getting outside and swimming and enjoying your friends! Trying to remain positive can be hard sometimes, and sometimes you have to just "grin and bear it" just to get through.

Push yourself this weekend...do the prep work so you have the right food and no excuse to go off plan, say good things about yourself to yourself and remind yourself you're a work in progress! You can do it!

              Re: Serious Depression!

In a social situation, do you tell people that you are on adkins and that is why you are not eating the birthday cake? Or do you just say "No thanks!"?

                  Re: Serious Depression!

are you seriously depressed (if so go get some help!) or just pissed off at yourself?? if you are just pissed off then get pissed off at the crap food that draws you in and takes over your life instead of yourself! you did not invent that food so it is is not your fault ..it is the crapfood industry!! you must be happy with yourself and love yourself enough to want to give yourself the gift of good health you can eat all kinds of wonderful foods and never have to feel deprived even at bbqs and parties but this all takes time to learn...

good luck be patient and take your time!

I used to just say no thanks. But now most peope don't generally offer me anything like that as they know what my response will be.

I also say "no thanks". Tell them you're about to puke on them. They'll leave you alone

                          Re: Serious Depression!

I say no thanks, because when I say I am on atkins some people start "teaching" me on how bad this diet is.... and I want to save myself that fight for now.

About your thought of yourself in a swim suit... what I can tell you is that after doing my 2 weeks induction I found myself looking at the mirror all the time, with a smile. A lot of fat is still there, I know there is a long way ahead... but the fat that I see there's a little less of me, and that I actually followed something for the time I was supposed too, makes me so proud of myself, that brought me a happiness that I haven't felt in years.

I hated to do exercise, but yesterday I joined a gym, becauseI want it now, I feel great and I want to continue having this feeling.

So I'd advice you to try to do the induction in a clean way, it's just 2 weeks, maybe you wont feel weel the first days because of the induction flu (where headaches and dizzyness can be normal and not a sign this diet is hurting you), and after those 2 weeks, you'll feel better, and gain more motivation and will after you see and feel results.

And remember to use this forum as much as you need, the people here never judge, never find a question stupid, they're very supportive and have a huge knowlege about this wol, so they'll help when you need it (as they have been helping me).

                          Good luck!

You can do it! You have such an awesome support at this site.. but remember, atkins, as well w/ any type of losing weight, is a lifestyle change. When you are truly ready and determined to lose the weight, you will have the highest willpower you have ever seen. Today is my 7th day on induction.. I have lost 9 pounds and feel INCREDIBLE.. My willpower and determination is the most I've ever felt and seen before. We can do it! Don't EVER EVER give up!!

                              Re: Serious Depression!

My friends and co-workers laugh at me, but I very often carry one of those Arctic Edge lunch bags with me when I know I am going somewhere that will have tempting non-Atkins approved food. If I am going to a birthday party, I take 2 sugar free jellos and my can of whipped topping, and guess what -usually someone ends up eating out of MY bowl!!!! If I am attending a meeting where there are refreshments, I take cheese slices and a slim jim along...it just takes a little forethought but aren't you worth it???
