Newbie here to the forum. My name is Vic. My wife and I started the Atkins Diet 3 days ago. So far so good. I am 46 and my wife is 50. Over the years we have both packed it on...yada, yada, yada...lol. Last week I went to my Orthopedic Surgen and he told me I needed a hip operation after a failed attempt with hip injections. The reason it failed is because I went into false diabeties. I had tremendous side effects that frankly, scared the **** out of me. Hot flashes, sweating, HUGE thirst for water, constant urination. If that wasn't bad enough...I woke up one morning after 5 days to not be able to see accross the room!!!!!!!!!!!
Like I said before, we started 3 days ago. On the first day within the first 16 hours I was in Ketosis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats how many carbs my body was used too. Its embarrassing to admit we figured that I must have been eating well over 300 to 600 carbs a day!!!!!!!! Pasta, rice or potatoes almost everyday along with every known junk food and pastry. No friggin wonder I packed it on.
Well, the bottom line, is I had these reactions because I am pre-diabetic. I never knew it. The cortazone pushed me over the edge I was on. Basiclly, I had a taste of full-blown diabeties. You know what?...I didn't like it. My Doc said it was things to come if I dont drop weight and start eating right. He asked me if I ever heard of the Atkins Plan. Of course I have. Heck I have even tried it a couple times. So, here I am. I am serious. I am very active and have always carried my weight well. I used to be a bodybuilder but then stopped lifting when I injured some joints. Anyhow, here I am 10 years later starting this plan at 338. My goal is 200. I have two short-term goals of breaking 300 then 250.
My wife has always been good till I started packing it on. Lolol, almost like a sympathy weight gain. I guess its my fault. Anyhow, Karen started this at 218. We have been married for 24 years. She has always been around 150-160. However the last few years she packed it on too.
Well, thats our story. I hope and pray this is another success story someday. We are fired up and highly motivated. This former Marine is going to kick butt and take names on this fatbody!!!!!!!!!!! EERRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!
...lololol. I am sure my wife will get on here and chat soon too.
Best Regards
