  • IT'S "D-DAY" FOR THIS WEIGHT!!!

Newbie here to the forum. My name is Vic. My wife and I started the Atkins Diet 3 days ago. So far so good. I am 46 and my wife is 50. Over the years we have both packed it on...yada, yada, yada...lol. Last week I went to my Orthopedic Surgen and he told me I needed a hip operation after a failed attempt with hip injections. The reason it failed is because I went into false diabeties. I had tremendous side effects that frankly, scared the **** out of me. Hot flashes, sweating, HUGE thirst for water, constant urination. If that wasn't bad enough...I woke up one morning after 5 days to not be able to see accross the room!!!!!!!!!!!

Like I said before, we started 3 days ago. On the first day within the first 16 hours I was in Ketosis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats how many carbs my body was used too. Its embarrassing to admit we figured that I must have been eating well over 300 to 600 carbs a day!!!!!!!! Pasta, rice or potatoes almost everyday along with every known junk food and pastry. No friggin wonder I packed it on.

Well, the bottom line, is I had these reactions because I am pre-diabetic. I never knew it. The cortazone pushed me over the edge I was on. Basiclly, I had a taste of full-blown diabeties. You know what?...I didn't like it. My Doc said it was things to come if I dont drop weight and start eating right. He asked me if I ever heard of the Atkins Plan. Of course I have. Heck I have even tried it a couple times. So, here I am. I am serious. I am very active and have always carried my weight well. I used to be a bodybuilder but then stopped lifting when I injured some joints. Anyhow, here I am 10 years later starting this plan at 338. My goal is 200. I have two short-term goals of breaking 300 then 250.

My wife has always been good till I started packing it on. Lolol, almost like a sympathy weight gain. I guess its my fault. Anyhow, Karen started this at 218. We have been married for 24 years. She has always been around 150-160. However the last few years she packed it on too.

Well, thats our story. I hope and pray this is another success story someday. We are fired up and highly motivated. This former Marine is going to kick butt and take names on this fatbody!!!!!!!!!!! EERRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!! ...lololol. I am sure my wife will get on here and chat soon too.

    Best Regards

Welcome to ADBB Vic, I loved your post!

From everything I've ever seen here, it's much easier to stay on track when you've got a friend or spouse doing Atkins with you. It's great that your wife is with you on this. Please take a look around the boards, and consider starting a chats journal so you can keep track of your progress and get feedback from members. Suggest your wife do the same! (Looking forward to meeting her too!)

Glad you both have decided to heed your eye-opener and kick some fat B*TT!! Your 1st weapon will be to thoroughly aquaint yourself with Dr Atkin's New Diet Revoution (2002), second, to explore the stickies and FAQ of the ADBB and dive into the threads.

3rd, ask questions. I and others will be happy to offer suggestions.

Re: IT'S "D-DAY" FOR THIS WEIGHT!!!

Thank you all for your kind words and support. Today is day 4. Yes, we have the 2002 Atkins book.

Ok, today we went to our sons college to move him in (Notre Dame). When we walk around and ended up at the weight room....I saw a scale and jumped on it just for the heck of it. To my suprise it said I lost 10 pounds!!!!!!!!!! Wow. I would guess its just water weight, but what a start. My plan is to just weight in once a week.

                  Excellent Vic!! 10 pounds!!

Seriously, congrats on making the step. It's pretty cool that you're wife is doing the same thing with you. My wife has always been at the same weight, flucuates 5 pounds here or there. A blessing we would all die for! But I did it alone, but it would have been nice to do it together!!

Good Luck!!! Can't wait to hear more!! Ex-marine, you go, Semper Fi!
