            Re: Hi

            Hi yall!

I'm so sorry I haven't been posted in a while. Lots of reasons for it so I won't bore you with details. Hopefully I'm here to stay. And I so hope you didn't give up on me yet. I've been rather scared and worried about failing so I haven't even started yet. My husband and I are clearng out the junk in the kitchen this week. Well these next couple of days and were starting as soon as that too. I'll be back for advice real soon I'm sure. In fact I was looking on the Atkins site and in particular at the Induction safe foods. It does say the bars and shakes are safe. I have read several times here that they aren't. Why does Atkins say they are good? Also the Bread Mix. And even on the day 1 menu of Induction (on the Atkins page) it says a slice of bread or toast, from Atkins is ok. Is it or no? Bread is my biggy. Not so much straight sweets but breads.

Anyway lemme know, if you don't mind the bother AND if any of you still remeber me. haha. I'd also like to put in for a name change. My name is Sherry. And I wanna live healthy. Thank you to those who did not lose hope in me. I appreciate that so much!

            Hugs,

            Sherry

              Re: Hi

Atkins is a corporation. The corporation wants you to eat/drink that stuff. They totally don't stall some people, but most people they do stall. My personal opinion is that they're not really food. I'd much rather eat a hamburger patty, or some cheese that I know to be natural. I'm pretty certain Dr. Atkins would only approve of the shakes/bars on a rare occasion, and in a pinch.

I don't know where induction rules say you can have bread. What it does say is, "eat absolutely no fruit, bread, pasta. grains, starchy vegetables or dairy products other than cream, cheese and butter".

Later on down the road, as you move up the rungs, you will be able to eat bread. That is, 100 whole grain (or soy) with no sugar in it at all. Not just regular old bread!

To really benefit from this, a 100% clean induction is imperative. I'm so glad your husband is doing it with you. That will help both of you!

                Re: Hi

Hi Sherry! That is such a wonderful thing that you put your name in your last message! I am so proud of you for that and you should be too! As far as the atkins products are concerned, I think some people have found that it slows down their weight loss. I personally stay away from most *frankenfoods* because they just make me crave the things that I am trying to replace. Like I have killer cravings for sweets but since I have tried some of those products before, they just make me want the real sweets even more. I think though that you should get more advice as to why some folks here discourage those foods.

One thing to keep in mind is that convenience foods are really processed and meant to be rarely used, not a staple of anyones diet. I am a huge bread fan too, and I was worried about lunch and how to eat a sandwich. What I do now is roll up some deli meat that hasn't been cured in sugar in romaine lettuce leaves with a bit of mustard or mayo. Also, I should mention that getting your blood sugar in control will help you control your cravings. I had diabetes while I was pregnant with my last two children, and although I don't have full blown diabetes, that was a big factor in me starting this WOE.

I understand how you feel about being worried that you are going to fail. Many of us here have tried everything to lose weight. I mean everything, even some have had surgery and found that it wasn't the answer for them. This isn't about failure. This is about finding what is going to work for you. If you stick with it, the weight will come off. No one expects perfection from anyone but themselves! We are the only creatures on earth that beat ourselves up when we don't accomplish what we think we should have. Just know that you are a success if when you fall down 100 times you get up 101 times.

Every one loses at a different rate and everyone here is here for the same reason. For support and to see other people succeed. You can succeed! We believe in you!

It is very nice to have shared with you this evening Sherry. You have a lovely name.

after almost 5 months on Atkins and over 63 lbs down! Watch for updates!

                  Re: Hi

Hi Sherry. Nice to see you again!

I wholeheartedly agree with Silly on the bars and shakes etc. Also on the bread...but don't lose heart... you can make flax rolls/crackers in induction (a couple of tablespoons of flax is allowed for constipation) which are a reasonable substitute for bread... at least it gives you something to put cheese on!
Once you move up the OWL rungs you can re-introduce wholegrain bread (when you reach the grains rung).

Looking forward to your Atkins start! Do keep us posted!

                    Re: Hi

Hi Sherry! (beautiful name by the way)

I'm new around here also, and can relate to alot that you've posted. I read through all the comments made here by you and others and you truly do have support and friendships already here!

Like most here, I also have tried it all, lost weight, regained it plus some back, played the yoyo game for many many years. I have alot of weight to lose (about 200 lbs) to find a healthier me also. It will be a long road, I know that, and I can live with that!

This takes a complete change in attitude and lifestyle. From your first post to your last here so far, I can already see the change in you! Great feeling hey???? Your possitive and 'up' and you can use that to guide ya through this!

There is no easy fix to the weight we've put on and live with. But, this works! You don't starve, you eat good tasting food, and ya don't feel you've lost out on anything. In most ways, you'll begin to feel like you're finally 'seeing' the world and enjoying it!

My b/f thinks I live, breath and am consumed by this WOL. He thinks I think too much about it and need to just go with the flow, but, I told him, NOT thinking about it got me to where I am..... Thinking about it, focusing on it, and truly living this new life, is what will get me through it!

First and foremost, you can't think of the things you 'can't have anymore' or will live without - pasta, breads, sweets etc...... you need to realize all you WILL have because of it! I also find that the expense is offset by the lack of the junk I'm not buying anymore and am probably spending about the same on food now as before.

I posted this in another thread on the site, but I really think it is so inspriational and want to share it with you also. This was one of the first things I'd read that someone posted when I began 3 weeks ago on Atkins. It truly has inspired me and struck a cord with me.

"It reminds me of a story. A 67 year old man applied to law school. During the admissions process the dean ask him why he was applying. He answered that he always wanted to be a laywer. The dean clarified, "But why now. Do you realize you'll be 70 years old when you get your diploma?" The man answered: "I'll be 70 years old in 3 years no matter what I do. Why not do something that I've always wanted to do?"

I look at my weight and weight loss as something that I need to do no matter how long it takes. In 3 years, I'll be 3 years older. That's going to happen no matter what. However, in 3 years I can also be healthier, at a healthier weight, doing things I can't do now because my weight holds me back. If it takes 3 years for me to lose the weight, then so be it. I hope it doesn't take that long but it could. Regardless, I can't control the time, but I can control the food.

Keep a journal, whether you do it here on the site or on your own.. It really helps me keep motivated and positive. Find things that inspire you and write about them, find quotes you can relate to and really get honest with yourself. It does help!

You've got yet another friend in me and hopefully, we can work on this new journey in our lives together!!! I'm only 3 weeks ahead of your start and am in it for a lifetime!

oh.. did I mention, I can ramble with the best of 'em?? haha

Good luck on your start!! We're all rootin for ya!

Hi Sherry, I'm glad you posted the comment on the bars and shakes. Just wanted to tell you that I was using those on and off last year becaue I was feeding my psychological self thinking I can have a bar, just like candy - right? Well I was pretty good with them but did not lose weight, I stalled and I was craving the real candy all the time.

I suggest you do a 2 week clean induction. We have plenty of food choices for you and your hubby. Have you printed your acceptable foods list? Are you reading the Book?
You and your hubby will be the better off for giving yourself a clean induction and being cheat free.

Hey Sherry, I know that one threw me for a loop too. But if you get bread out of your system with a clean induction your cravings for those things will get less strong. Try looking at the list of acceptable foods for induction and make up some meal plans from there. If you need any suggestions we are here to help!

hey nelson...i think after reading all the replies about the atkins products...that is to say the more convenient foods, i think that is what im doing too. trying to have my cake and eat it too, so to speak. i think ill change my mindset for a radical change and decide to stick straight with what is definitely allowed and keep my eye on the "prize."

                            a few quick q's...

                            butter... better salted or unsalted?

sausage... just bought 5 pounds. the nutritional chart says no carbs no sugars and we got it home and noticed the ingredients say sugar, even tho its second to last on the list, just below something clearly written in a lost language cuz i couldnt pronounce it. can i eat it or should i not?

salad dressing... the plain italian has sugar - 3g, same with carbs - 3g. i really hate to give up 3 of my 20 carbs on something like that. isnt there anything with 0 carbs AND no sugar? plain oil and vinegar? i dont know how to even make that. (you have to go very slow with me. haha.)

                            hugs,

                              hubby's girl -

i made 11 days worth of menus for us to follow...im still working on the last few. seems to be getting kinda monotonous. like the same meals over and over. but im being veryvery careful as to not include even the slightest thing that is even questionable.

truth is... i jumped the gun. my plan was to clear out the kitchen and then start induction in a couple of days. but after reading all the replies last night i couldnt wait. i went to bed thinking about what id eat first. i mayve even screwed up already. i ate a double cheeseburger, no bun of course, with a thin slice of tomato and a small sprinkle of onions with mayo and a small handful of lettuce. i was really worried about it not being enough but its 7 now and im only now beginning to get hungry. later were having some roast with a little more salad greens and a little broccoli in butter (its salted butter.) i read somewhere that this womans husband wraps bacon in cream cheese and on celery. oh yeah it was the bacon thread, haha! so thatll be my next thing in a little bit. so..be gentle with me but please critique my first day of induction. ~braces~

                                Re: Hi

Hey that's funny! Sherry it is my hubby that eats the cream chees bacon and celery! Cool! The recipies are so vast when you are on a board like this one. The food you described is ok. Make sure your veggies are two loosly packed cups of salad a day and one other cup of veggies that are on the induction list. I personally stay away from salt a bit because I have high blood pressure. If that is a concern for you than, maybe you can kind of limit it too.

I had a double cheese burger for lunch today too, with mayo, mustard, dill pickle and onion. A small salad and some water with splenda and lemon juice. For dinner we had 6 oz. steak with guacamole and salad. I skipped the extra cup of veggies and just had three cups of salad. (guacamole was about two tablespoons so I didn't think it would be too much above my veggie allowence.)

If you are still hungry that is ok! Eat until you are satisfied, not stuffed, and you should be ok. If I am hungry and I have had all of my veggies for the day, I will pick at a smal amount of meat leftovers from dinner, or a slice or two of bacon.....mmmmmm.....bacon!!!!!
