  • Hi Everyone...

Hi, my name is Michelle. Myself and a friend started Adkins on 1/3/2007. Im trying to lose some weight before the summer starts. I did my research before I started bought the book and read alot of posts on this website so I thought I was fully prepared. My current weight as of this morning is 138 my goal weight is 120. Well I'm getting kind of scared because I actually gained weight !! I have been following the diet and haven't cheated. I'm getting a little discouraged because normally I would never be consuming all these calories and eating this much fat, the main reason I chose this diet is because I was tired of starving myself and counting calories and eating rabbit food. What should I do, is this normal? I want to continue on Atkins but I'm afraid of gaining not losing weight. Any advice would or reassurance would greatly be appreciated. BTW this site is awesome and all the success stories is what inspired me.

    Hi Michelle! Welcome!

How about posting a few days worth of meals so that the "experts" here can get a better idea of what may be causing a weight gain.

I'm sure that if you stick with it and follow strict induction rules, and have no hidden sugars and/or "frankenfoods" you will lose.

    Good Luck!
    Stella

Welcome to the board! Yes, go post a few days of eating in the "review my menu" area. It's true that you can eat lots of fat/protein but even so, if you are consuming too many calories for your body, you will not lose weight. There's a happy medium we all have to find for ourselves. You don't have too much to lose at this point.

        go check this out: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
if you do some reading on this site it will help you determine just how many calories your body needs to maintain, and also how many to lose.

              Re: Hi Everyone...

On day two there, did you really eat 2705 calories or is that a typo and you meant 1705? Your protein is kind of low also. You should try to maintain 30% protein always. 2% carbs is also kind of low. Are you eating 2 cups of "salad veggies" per day and 1 cup other veggie? That alone should bump your carb percentages. it takes some tweaking but it's great you're using fitday!

Hi there~ I just wanted to hop in here and tell you not to get discouraged because you are not losing weight yet. First, induction is a 14 day deal and you're only 1/2 way in and second, you said that you are trying to go from 138 to 120 - that's 18 pounds...rule of thumb is that you can expect to lose from 5 - 10% of the weight you need to lose - so in your case, that would be between .9 and 1.8 pounds...I went through your postings to check and didn't see where this was already pointed out, so I thought I would toss it out there as food for thought. Also, was that 2700 calorie day correct? Did you get a chance to check out the calculator that sillygirl linked to? That might be really helpful to you!

                  Re: Hi Everyone...

Yes... Kylie's right... the less you need to lose the slower you lose it, and in induction you can expect to lose 5-10% of the total weight you need to lose; so in your case, not very much.
Ditto what the others said too.
Hang in there, eat right, exercise and drink masses of water. Sooner or later it'll happen!
