  • New Lad from OZ

Hi just joined yesterday but started my diet on 20-2-07 when I weighed in at 270 lbs. 3 Years ago I weighed 187 lbs and this will be my goal weight. I have gained a few stretch marks around my belly which just really apperaed overnight, and I can't even look at myself in a window reflection as I walk past. My partner hasn't seen me naked in over a year - I'm too embaressed! I live near some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia but haven't been............my story is probably your story!

Any way now the good news! I have managed to get down to 258 a loss of 12 lbs in 12 days on induction and am trying to go under 5 -10 carbs per day. I had a son just before Christmas called Jimmy and I want him to see a slim healthy, happy dad and not an overweight one full of regrets and self loathing. I am so glad I found this site and I know that your success will inspire and guide me.

    Thanks Dave.

Hello Dave... welcome to ADBB. Very glad you decided to join us here.

Congratulations on your new son! Congratulations also on your losses so far... awesome.

Don't worry too much about keeping the carbs ultra low. I mean, under 20 grams certainly, on induction...but remember you do need your three cups of veggies (2 salad and one "other" acceptable veggies)per day, and that's where most of the induction carbs should come from. The vitamins and minerals you get from greens are very important. Many people typically find they hovver between 14-18 g carbs per day during induction.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have. There are plenty of knowlegeable people around to help out.

      Happy further losing!

Hi Dave, good to see another Aussie on the boards. I'm from Melbourne, you?

The story sounds very familiar (except for the family thing). I (re-)started a little less than a month before you, with a little more weight, 290lb.

Nice work so far. I agree with Sally above, I wouldn't worry about carb grams up to 20g. Including enough variety and healthy salad/veg is important, for health and sanity. I love adding tomato or onion to my salads or dinner.

                  Hi Greame

I'm on the sunshine coast. I'll take your advoce about the carbs and started adding them in. I lived in Meblourne for a while - South Yarra. Work brough me up here. I travel to Brisbane on the train 4 hours a day so think that ay have added to my weigh problem. What do you normally have for breakfst?

                      Re: New Lad from OZ

Howdy Davey, I'm in Carlton. My sister is currently in Brisbane, just bought a house with her boyfriend.

For breakfast I typically have either scrambled eggs (just eggs, a little cream, and a few herbs - I'm currently off cheese sadly) with a little salad e.g. spinach leaves, capsicum/pepper, tomato OR I have bacon and eggs, again with some salad. It's eggs eggs eggs. There are alternatives, eg. 'legal' pancake thingies, but I can't be bothered. Plus I find that I get to like eggs, even though occasionally I feel like I could kill for some toast (I should get some low carb bread!). I resist though, this WOE just works too well to cheat.

                        Good Morning Dave!

Hey sorry I missed your post. Hey man, a couple things, first off, congratulations on the birth of your Son! Awesome! Secondly, congratulations on the weight loss. Sounds to me like you need to get that carb count up. Remember most of your carbs should be coming from veggies. Believe me, since addding all sorts of cool veggies, my carb count has went way up!! In no time you'll be saying, man, I'm already at 18 carbs and it's only 3 in the afternoon! But they are wholesome, good carbs, broccoli, summer squash, cauliflower, spinach, jicama, endless things you can do with all these. Most definately, don't starve yourself, you need those carbs for fiber and such, to not 'clog' things up if you catch my drift.

It is wonderful to have you join our board. Make your way around, check out all the cool forums, and most definately check out some of the recipes, and cooking forums. Great stuff.

It is great to meet you. Keep us posted on your progress! Once again, great job on the 12 pounds so far, that rocks man!

Hi Thanks for the advice, I was just eating eggs and bacon everyday, was just speaking to my partner and after reading your post we are going to spice things up with spinch, herbs etc like you said. Funny what you said about the toast. i usually order from a cafe next to the office and at the end of the order they ALWAYS say "is that with toast"...aghhhhhhhhhhhhh!

                          Thanks heaps.

Get in first mate, say "... without toast". My tip, get a fried tomato with it! It has a fair few carbs (~5 perhaps) but they are nutritious carbs. And delicious.

My housemate has toast relatively frequently with peanut butter. I used to love that, and it smells really good. But seeing the weight and inches go feels better!

This may sound totally weird....but it's been a life saver for me (oh, and hello!).

Take egg whites and beat them into a meringue (like for a pie). If you aren't familiar with what that means...beat them with a kitchen whisk until it makes a thick foam (almost like whipped cream). Then spread the whipped egg whites onto a baking pan (flat cookie sheet or pizza sheet) thinly but evenly. Bake until slightly browned.

This will make an excellent "bread" to spread things on, or use as "crackers" and such. I can't say that it has much flavor, but it's been a real life saver. When you get to the point of adding foods back in such as peanut butter, this is GREAT for spreading peanut butter on. It could also be used as a "crust" for pizza. The ideas are limitless...
