  • Fell off the wagon, any helpful tips?

Yo, hello, I fell off the wagon over the weekend. It started with a SObe Lean drink, the first sweet taste since March 1. Then I wanted salt so it was cashews. Then I was super thirsty and a vodka/7up sounded good. After 2 of those it was 4 big handsful of bridge mix (cheap chocolate)...woke up at 3 a.m. sick from the sugar.

Weighed this morning for the first time in about 4 days, had dropped another 2 lbs, total of 14 lbs since March 1. Good results but it might have been more without the detour.

Today a woman gave me a bound copy of the latest Dr. ATkins book, I'm planning to read it and I see the menus and the different levels of carb intake that are listed...awesome.

What should I do? I am a little bit anxious that this binge type of behavior will reoccur. I got right back on the plan today with no problem. What happens when this kind of binge occurs? I had done such a good induction.

    Here's what I ate today:

No breakfast! Got up late after no sleep from 3 a.m. sick feeling
Lunch: 2-3 cups mixed young greens, cauliflower, carrots, 1/2 avocado, 1 sausage w/portobello mushroom (3g carb), salad dressing
    water, water, water, tea
    coffee w/cream
It's dinner time now and I'm REALLY hungry.

    Any helpful commentary welcome

Well congratulations for getting right back onto plan. If you feel a craving coming on, go do something else, anything that will get your mind off it, like coming onto the boards, going for a walk, calling a friend, whatever will make it recede to the back of your mind, or even better, completely make it go away! Remember always, nothing tastes as good as being thin feels!

What works for me is to have a favorite Atkins meal next. My "comfort food" is a bacon cheeseburger and a salad with crumbled blue cheese and olives, with blue cheese dressing. It's a lot easier and, in fact, is almost like a reward for getting back on track.

Just get right back in the saddle like you are doing. I would encourage you to stay away from the alcohol, though, as we all know that once you indulge too much there, all reasoning is gone! Therefore, you are not real coherent about what you are shoving into your mouth. In addition, I remember from my college days, (uh...hmmmm a few years ago 'fer sure)that during a night of drinking as well as the morning after always led to what the girls and I in the dorm referred to as the "drunk munchies!" You wanna eat everything in sight. Also, depending on what you are drinking there can be ALOT of carbs involved in that alone. Not a good combo for weight loss. Hang in there and keep posting!!!!

PizzaManNoMore, what a great idea, a CHEESEBURGER!!!! Omigod I would have never thought of that. Why? Because I see that I have a DIET mentality...oh yeah! With my previous efforts being calorie oriented, the week before I started Atkins I had "my last cheeseburger" because well, you know, there's so many calories in a cheeseburger. But comfort food is exactly what's the ticket because the detour I took had all to do with changing my mood with food.

Yeah, yeah, I know, changing my mood with food is a habit that needs looking at too. One step forward...

ThinIsPossible, you are so right about the loss of control with alcohol. Of course, for some of us, having a break from controlling is what the drink is all about!!! Snerk, snerk... But yeah, staying away from wodka is probably the success strategy here. I'm just glad I stopped at 4 handsful of bridge mix, not the whole container...

Guekjian, I like your ideas about distracting me from cravings. So far the cravings haven't been THAT bad but then I've only been doing this for 20 days. I do have fleeting images of certain things that flow past my screen. Like someone else said here, I've quelled the urge to eat with many a boiled egg! I luv em. Getting on this board is a good way, too, although I find lots of time goes by fast when I come here. It's almost as good as playing a computer game! I'm finding that a cup of coffee in the afternoon with cream is a good to look forward to.

Yes, I'm still rewarding myself with food. Let's see...Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels. That might be my new mantra!

Redfox... welcome back! You did great by jumping back onto the Atkins wagon. Just focus strongly on your goal and keep high fat snacks available always for when those cravings hit. That way you should be able to avoid cheats more easily... and believe me it gets easier as you go along.

Hi Ladies, thank you all for your encouragement. This is such the best way to get on a new path of self care, with all this support. Planning ahead is the key...hmmm...maybe this afternoon I better make time to get over to the market. Actually I do have quite a few things on hand. I even keep a few things in my car.

My challenge is always going to be the late-late weekend night, where I get a little down about some of life's circumstances...THEN is the temptation to medicate with a couple of drinks. I think I will plan to have something munchable available for those times.

I gotta go, I'm at work. Thank you all so much, I will post some more later..

Try blue diamond smoke house almonds instead of cashews, crystal lite instead of sobe, whipped cream and fresh/ frozen low sugar berrys ( i have a big bag of blue, ras and black berrys), strawberrys and chocolate whipped cream, sugar free cocoa (hot or cold), there are all kinds of snacks that can be put together easily or dry snacks that help with hunger binges. the secret is to arm yourself with the things that help get you through and eliminate your cupboard of the bad stuff so its not around. I had to tell my family that chocolate was not allowed in the house in front of me! i told them if i see it i will take it from you and eat it so dont let me see any. they laughed but then it happened and now they no im serious!!

Redfox, sorry that you had a bad day. But it was just that, a bad day, don't focus on that, re-direct your energy to NOW. Ok, so now your at a crossroads. You need to focus on which path to take. The one to the left is the Atkins plan, the one to the right is the way you used to eat, which is why your at this point in your life in the first place right? Well don't forget to look at that dead end sign right in front of you that says...'binge - DEAD END'.

The alcohol is sooooo bad for you, not only does it cloud your judgement, but it stops your body burning fat, and starts burning alcohol. When I'm having a really bad craving for something, I do some of the things they have mentioned here, take a walk, call a friend, come to this board and look at the before and after pictures, look at my 295 pound picture, look at my 295 pound picture, look at my 295 pound picture, look at my 295 pound picture, look at my 224 pounds picture........crave gone.

Try it! Take the right path!

G'day All ....D. Doyel, that is a great idea about the chocolate. I visit often at a friend's house so when I go there...I need to ask to have the chocolate put away I think. Just seeing it in the glass container in the fridge may have set off my behavior to a point where I let down my guard. Whipped cream? I guess that doesn't have to have sugar added, right? Do you add Splenda? Anything with whipped cream would be good. Low sugar berries, that's already on my fave list. Good suggestions!

Scooterjam, the visual of the Dead End sign is quite effective. I wondered about what happens after drinking alcohol. Fact is, I haven't dropped another pound since this event occurred five days ago. Still holding at 194. BUT I have stayed right on the plan, no deviations.

                            Here's what I ate yesterday:

                            Bkfst 2 boiled eggs, coffee/cream
                            water
Snack 1 oz white cheddar, water
Lunch green salad, orange pepper strips, boiled egg, 1/2 chicken breast, caulilfower buds, salad dressing, tea
                            water, water, water
Dinner mixed vegetables, 1 small pork rib, tea
                            water

That's kind of how I eat

THANKS for the SUPPORT and BEHAVIORAL MANAGEMENT TIPS

                              Redfox,

It looks like maybe you're still not eating enough....you know that can cause issues as well. After looking at what you ate yesterday. Remember, eat if your hungry, but not overly full. Did that amount of food satisfy you? I know you're really trying to focus here, but don't starve yourself. It defeats the purpose of eating this wonderful way!

                              Best of luck!
