  • Just finished Induction

    Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the board but not to Atkins. I've done the Atkins in the past and successfully lost 40 lbs. I had another child and gained it back. After a doctor's visit in early May, I realized that I should try the Atkins again because it seemed to be the only diet that really worked. I just finished induction yesterday and roughly lost about 10 lbs. The last time I tried this I lost 15 but I'm not complaining. It seems to get harder to lose as I get older. I'm going to stay on the extended induction plan. My problem is that I'm weighing myself on the scale too many times. (I'm a scale addict) I notice that I retain water when I first wake up in the morning ( even after going to the bathroom). If I wait a couple of hours and then weigh in...I've lost about 2 lbs. Is this water retention normal?
    Thanks!

Welcome Ma2! Glad you found us here at ADBB. Congrats on your previous losses on Atkins. I'm sure it'll work well for you again, though you are right, weight loss gets slower as the years go by. Think direction though, rather than speed.

Not sure about your water retention on waking thing. I weigh immediately and have never tried waiting. I think we're all very different though...

    Happy Atkineering!

      Hello!

      Welcome to ADBB

I'm not sure about the water thing either - normally people are at their lightest in the am after having been to the bathroom. Do you have other signs of water retention - like puffy ankles? The solution can be to drink more water to flush it out, so get in the amount the diet recommends.

      See you around the boards

Hi Ma2! Welcome to the board. I'm the same as you in the morning. I usually wait until after I shower to weigh, I like the resulting # better then!

I find this way of eating reduces water retention and bloating, but we are all different. We're all like little science experiments and everything from food to exercise to medication is going to react differently with each of us. I think as long as you weigh yourself at the same time every day - whatever time that may be - then it doesn't matter if you wait. I still haven't cured my scale addiction and I do weigh a lot during the week - but I only count 1 number a week. So whatever I may go up or down each day, I only count what it says on Mondays (Mondays work for me). Otherwise you'll go crazy trying to figure out your progress. Congratulations on finishing induction!

Congrats on the 10lbs. I weigh slightly better after I shower too! I reckon weigh at the most optimum time for you. If its 2hours after you get up, I'd stick with that!

              Thanks for everyone's comments.
I started exercising yesterday & today - 30 minutes on the elliptical...it says I burned 400 calories...I sure hope so...boy it was hard. My daughter's birthday is tomorrow and I've ordered her an ice cream cake..but you know what? No cake or ice cream could make me feel any better than I feel now 10 lbs less. So..I'm going to have my husband and 3kids eat that cake up QUICK and get it out of the house. I promise not to touch it. I'll weigh in on Monday and hopefully with the added exercise I will be down even more.

              Thanks for all the encouragement.
              Take care and best wishes.

Congratulations on your induction success! I hope to follow in your footsteps. Only on day 4 but looking forward to the scale at the end of induction. Cheers

Goal # 1 Reduce my waist enough so fitting into a pair of jeans will not make me feel like a sausage with a tight string cinched around my bulging waist.
Goal # 2 Have my thighs become less familiar with one another. I am tired of them rubbing up against each other when I walk.
Goal # 3 Be able to see my back without those flabby rolls under my bra line, you know I could store things in those roll creases, a book to read, small toy etc
Goal # 4 Run a 5k in Sept. and continue this WOE.
