Hi everyone.. I found this site when a co-worker told me about the Atkins diet and how she lost a good amount of weight on it. From viewing the postings I figured out that I am an emotional eater. Which I am glad that I am not the only one, and it helped me to figure out why I want to eat eat eat when I get upset/stresses out.

I am a mother of a 20 month old and I only gained 20lbs when I was pregnant. I was a size 14 now I am a size 16, and I am tired of being overweight. I can pretty much control my cravings now that I know it is stress related. I just started the diet, so any tips would be great.... I do have one question -can I use protein shakes on this diet? Anything quick and easy is good.. I am sure everyone knows how it is to have a young child, work f/t, and take care of the family when you get home is.. My parents live in another state so I don't have much support. Thanks for any advice/tips!!!

Hi I am also new to the Atkins, but in doing this new way of eating and being my own test subject. For the Atkins to work for you, you must not for the first two weeks have any milk and or products that are high in carbs. I do not remember where on this site I found it, but there is a forum where this lady explains to you how to do the Atkins and what you can and cannot eat. Beleive me in telling you that the first to weeks are awesome, if you stick to eating what you are suppose to you will see results. Then you can add carbs slowely. Make sure that carbs that you are gona eat during the first two weeks are of the ones on the list. Just having one taste of something you are not allowed to will kill all the effort. Remember to drink plenty of water. This is how I figure my water intake. I drink 16oz bottles, so I do it this way I have 5 bottled waters this equals my 8oz-10glass, then for every 25lbs I need to lose I have another 8ozs. so in total I have 7 bottles per day, the extra two because I want to lose 50lbs right now I weigh 216.2. So if you have questions then I can try and help you any way that I can. I have learned because I am and will admit LAZY that if I cook all my meals by the week and prepack them then I am not tempted to eat other things! You can and will succeed!

Hi Angie - welcome. My top tip to you is to sign up to fitday.com. It will keep track of how much you eat and the carbs every day. A great way to ensure that you are getting enough calories. I think all of us on indcution struggle to get enough calories in and thats not good in the long run.

        good luck

Hi Angie... welcome! Glad you decided to post here!

Definitely no bars and shakes on induction... if ever... that's a matter of choice for later on when you're closer to maintenance.

My tips would be that you take your measurements on starting. There are times when we lose inches sooner than lbs and the tape measure is a far better guage of weight loss than the scale.

Also, you say your overeating is stress related. Great that you've come to that conclusion, so that you know how to cope with that. If you feel yourself getting stressed out, it would be terrific if you could turn to exercise to relieve the stress... you'd get a double benefit. I know you must be very very busy, but even taking the kid/s for a walk is good... or dancing with them... anything that will take your mind off food!

Keep posting and let us know how you're getting along! We're with you all the way.
