  • Greetings from Australia

Hi. This is the first day of induction for me. I did Atkins a few years ago and had great success with it. However I made the mistake of viewing it as a quick fix and not a lifestyle, so the weight went back on.

Since then I have lost and regained the same 12 kilos on many different programs, and never felt satisfied with the food. Since reading DANDR again, I have realised that I definately need to adopt this approach for life, because my body just does not function well on carbs.

My husband is fairly supportive but has the common view that you should eat everything in moderation, so I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with others who truly understand.

I would also love to hear from anyone doing Atkins who is from Australia.
    Cheers!

    Re: Greetings from Australia

Hello Aussie Girl. Yup ... I fell into the old way of eating after losing weight with Atkins too. Lots of us have. Well done on realising it's a way of life. I've just had to realise that I'm never going to be able to devour high carb food without my body storing fat like billy-o! So ... one person's "moderation" is another person's "don't bring that stuff near me 'cos it makes me get really fat and feel really horrid". There's a couple of people with tag lines on this board that say they are allergic to carbs. I think that's really true. Luv to ya.
Start weight: 103.6 kg (227.92 lbs)
Goal weight: 80 kg (176 lbs)
    Now weighing in at ...... 95.6kg (210.32)
    Total loss = 8 kg (17.6 lbs)

      Hi Aussie Girl,

welcome to ADBB! I agree with you and GaynorA, for some people carbs in moderation (bad ones like sugars and flour) are a recipe for disaster, or at least, very difficult weight loss.

Glad you've made the decision to make it a way of life rather than a quick fix

Best of luck getting back into it.

Hi Aussie! Welcome back to this great way of eating, and to the board! DANDR is like some kind of muse isn't it? It's great that you started re-reading it and realized this is what you need to do. I still refer to mine when I need that muse to kick in again! It's also nice to have a supportive husband. Best of luck to you.
