I got on the scale yesterday for the first time in about 3 months. I weigh 208 pounds... I nearly had a stroke!!!!!! Last time I postponed going on a diet, I was 190lbs. WHAT HAPPENED TO ME?????? I realised that when I keep going like this, I'll end up where I'm heading...
So I got up this morning, dropped off kids at school and went STRAIGHT to the gym. Walked on treadmill for 20mins, nearly died. Bike for 10 mins, nearly dead, 5mins on rowmachine....died. It's going well with the diet so far, started with boiled eggs after gym, tuna salad for lunch, piece of cheese just now, (15h45 here in sunny South Africa) I'll have a stirfry tonight.

I can do this... For my 2 beautiful girls, 4 & 5. The older one has a tendency to pick up weight if I don't control her eating. She's always hungry, and eats alot, luckily she likes the right things. She's not currently overweight, and I don't want her to have the same struggle as me. When I don't watch what we eat, and buy the wrong sort of food, I can see her gaining almost immediately.

I've been extremely out of control with food over the past 2 years. I had my thyroid removed after being extremely hyperthyroid, and ballooned from 140 to 208...I never changed the way I ate before, when I could eat anything I wanted and not gain weight. My 4-year old is such a cute little bunny, she's extremely small for her age. She's still in 1-2 years' clothes, but tall.

I'm extremely impressed with the ADBB, and love looking at the before & afters for inspiration. I think I'll do 14 day induction, and extend it for as long as I can. Please tell me if this is the best, or to rather go to weight loss after 14 days??

If it's OK, I'll spend alot of time here, I think it'll keep me motivated. I read some threads about challenges, can anyone tell me where I go to sign up?

    Let the games begin....

If you don't change direction, you'll end up where you're heading!!

    Re: Started today

Hi Nitzi...welcome and congratulations on your decision to do something for your health
I think you will see a lot posts telling you to spend your 14 days on induction and then move on as it seems a lot of people lose more weight then.
I did it this way but I'm only on day 2 of OWL and have TOM visiting, so can't tell you if it's true or not

I wish you good luck anyway, no matter which way you decide to go.
Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P

          Re: Started today

Hi there Nitzi! Of course you can do this! I'm happy you've found this board. There's so much information on it to get you started. We also have lots of great supportive people on board!

Extended induction is fine, however, lots of people tend to get "stuck" there. Eventually, it's much better to bump up the food rungs as that will give your weight loss a further kick start!

Do come around often, we love to watch people shrink!

                      Re: Started today

Thanks to all, I feel extremely welcome & motivated! I'll definately check out all the stuff as I get to know my way around ADBB. Just thought I'd check in before going to bed. Was such a nice surprise to read all your comments - I feel like I can succeed.. 1st day CHEATFREE... Was tempted - but stood strong!

My sister had a baby boy tonight, went to visit in hospital. Kids asked for cold drinks, so I walked into the giftshop with tunnelvission, and bought each of us a bottle of H2O!!! Congratulations to me!!! Got home & made stirfry. Feel a bit tired so I'll say good night - today was a total shock to the system for me... Will start a journal tomorrow. Watch this space...

                        Hi Nitzi!!!

Congrats to you for keeping your resolve and making it through that crucial first cheat-free day!!! I'm new here, too, and delighted to read all the support and encouragement that is given here so freely.

What really struck me about your post was how you commented on the LAST scale reading when you resolved to make a change. Boy, do I know that feeling. Then it's like, ummmm.... I'm HOW much heavier?!?! Discouragement is not my favorite motivator.

But here we are, standing firm and with all the support we will ever need to succeed. Keep up the fantastic work, and I'm sure I'll be reading more about your progress soon!
