  • Greetings from Finland!

Hello everyone! After browsing the forums for a few days, I decided it was time for me to join.

    I'm 27, female, from Finland.

I started as a good carb around February this year after talking with a friend. I had tried the induction few years back, but with definitely wrong instructions and not enough knowledge and it didn't feel good, so I was a bit negative about low carb diets. But my friend told me that there's no need to go to extremes and told about the good carb concept. From February to end of May I lost 3 kilos and started feeling better, then I started weighing my food and using a website similar to Fitday (I think) and lowered my carbs to around 30-40 grams a day. Then I started really losing weight and now I've lost 13,4 kilos (about 30 pounds) from February (a bit over a kilo per week from the beginning of June).

As you can see, I have started my new lifestyle in an unorthodox way, but it seems to have worked for me. Now I'm doing a clean induction (day 3) and I intend to follow Atkins from now on. I'm feeling really good and for the first time in over 10 years, regular exercising feels a natural thing to do and I even enjoy it. I still need to lose about 50 pounds, but I'm in no hurry.

I have already gotten a lot of help from this forum and I'm happy to have found my way here. So, thank you all for contributing to this huge forum!

      Welcome Rain,
glad to have you join us. Love your attitude!! Don't forget to take measurements, sometimes the scales do not move for a bit and you see results on the measure tape instead of the scale. Keep us up to date on your progress.

            Re: Greetings from Finland!

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

I think I am a bit addicted to my scale, but it's just interesting to see how the weight will change from day to day and week to week. Sometimes it does make me frustrated and I think those are the times when I should ignore the whole scale for a while. Usually I'm not in a hurry with the weight loss, but the scale is an evil thing and makes me crazy once in a while.

I've measured myself a few times and from the end of May to this day I've lost 10 centimeters from both waist and hip circumference. Even my left wrist is 1,4 centimeters thinner.

sallyseachange: Thank you. I love English and I'm really happy to be able to train my food and nutrition vocabulary here, it's an area which I haven't used much when I've been conversating in English.

I visited a good friend of mine in USA last summer and I had such a great time. I wish I could go back soon since I loved being there. I've also dreamed of visiting England, but I think it has to wait for a while. I know some people from England, but there's no-one who I would dare to bother for a few days to get a native to show me around. I think that is always the best way to get to know a new place (and the culture).

sillygirl: It really is great how there's so many different nationalities here in this forum. Variety gives new experiences, standpoints and ideas.

I wish I had a bit more time, this board is so huge that it will take a while to get to know all the different forums and their best functions (and threads). I love the Challenges -area and the concept, I think I'll go there next and start reading. Thanks for the no weigh challenge tip.
