  • Newbie here

Hi my name is Rosie- I am starting induction on Monday. I tried Atkins a few years ago but only lasted a few days. At the time I wasn't really ready to give up my sweet tea and pasta

Since January of this year I converted to a vegatarian eating plan and have been sticking to it - I lost 50 lbs but gained 10 back because I started having binging weekends that used to be only Saturdays ended up being 3-4 days per week I can't seem to control it. I am not a true vegan and I miss meat, eggs and cheese too much. I love eating veggies also. My coworker has been on Atkins the past month and I drool over the food he brings with him to eat for lunch. So here I am.

I have been reading over the forums here and I am just truly impressed over the tight knit community I have seen and there are veterans here which makes this woe seem like a good one!

Welcome! No need to drool over the food--Atkins is delicious and VERY healthy! You need nutrients from meat and fat. There are essential nutrients you can't get anywhere else. You need to read Dr. Atkins last book: "Atkins For Life." Lots of helpful stuff about vegetarians and information about this woe garnered over his decades of research and medical practice.

        Best of Luck!

        Sunny!

Hi Rosie. Welcome. Don't look at this WOE as a dreaded punishment. You don't have to give up your pasta dishes, (I ate pasta 3-4 times a week)...there are lots of substitute meals you can make that allow you to enjoy those dishes without using traditional noodles. *Check out substitution forum and learn to make those dishes using egg noodles and zucchini - they are delicious!

You've made an important first step by joining us and committing to doing this for yourself. You won't find any better support group than here in the ADBB. Everyone is working together to meet our goals and make it happen. Get active here, make friends and form a plan to be successful. You can do it! Best wishes.
            Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Dedication gives wings to our dreams and keeps them in flight! In One Word...COMMITTMENT.

My coworker was drooling over my lunch yesterday too! She kept coming in my office and looking at it and inhaling loudly! She says "OMG what are you eating, aren't you dieting?!" Yes. Meat and cheese and onions and bell peppers (all 3 colors) with a little sour cream on the side, my fajitas were delish!

You will do superbly! If you went vegan and lost 50 lbs you will be able to do this too! Going vegan is so much more disciplined than atkins! Veggies are A VERY important part of this woe and since you eat them already it's gonna be gravy!

              Best of losses to you!!

                Thanks
OH btw - I was mulling this over (switching to Atkins) and I was in the hall at work and some random guy I had never met before asked if I had lost weight (guess he has seen me around?) - he said he lost 200 lbs in 3 years doing low carb and he was just glowing and so positive. He said his diabetes is under control and he doesn't have to take his meds anymore. That was my "sign" to go ahead and switch to this WOE. I am very excited! And I KNOW I wont have any problems especially after eating the way I was the past several months.

Hi Rosie! Welcome to the board. Atkins is geared toward meat and sat fats, so I'm glad to hear that you are done being a vegetarian! Once your two week induction is up, guess what, you get to move to Rung 1 which is more veggies! You will have the best of both worlds! Watch for the upcoming board wide Are You Eating Your Veggies Challenge in October! It would be good for you to join it. You will be surprised at how many NET carbs in veggies form you can eat!

It's great you've found the board, if you come daily you will get plenty of support so that you can stick to this for more than two days in a row! Also, the people at your work will help you to stay on track. Give that diabetic guy a pat on the back for me!

                          See you around!

Thanks so much! I am SO glad I found this community! I just started this morning with scrambled eggs, cheese and mushrooms and just had a piece of ham and cheese for a snack. For lunch I am having tuna salad with celery and egg in it. Dinner will be chicken, mushrooms, mozzerella with a side salad with romaine, cucumber and bleu cheese dressing.

OMG - you are having the perfect atkins day! Don't forget your water!

                              Two things to tell you:

                              1. You can start a Journal Stats thread for yourself. It's where you can log your food intake daily and even win an award if you use it twice a week. Only you can post to this, no one else.

                              2. Journal Chats are a great place for daily support and gab.

                              Check 'em all out.
