  • Introducing myself--Newbie here

Hello group. Just wanted to introduce myself. I started Atkins on 1/5/08. I just joined the forum today. Reading the success stories and how others survived induction has helped immensely.

For the past year and a half I have committed myself to improving the quality of my life. I began this journey by getting help for my alcohol/drug abuse and joining a 12 step program. I have been sober for 15 months. Then I quit smoking cigarettes 2 months ago and started going to the gym 4 months ago.

I am trying to become the person I always wanted to be. I finally feel ready to get off the extra weight. I started gaining when i had my 5-year old, then again when I quit smoking and of course when I got sober . I seemed to subsitute food for the alcohol/drugs. I have faith I can break my food addiction with the help from a diet that works and a support system.

I'd like to lose about 35-40 pounds. I toned up from working out but didn't lose any weight. I lost 2 pounds the past month on Weight Watchers but always felt hungry! It's day 5 of induction and I'm feeling the flu like symptoms, uncomfortable but bearable. Just went and got some potassium supplements to add to my multi-vitamin and fish oil. I felt great until last night but I was expecting this. I keep telling myself it's temporary!

I am looking forward to getting to know you all.
    ~Camille

Hi Camille, I joined recently and am nearing the end of day 3 on induction. Well done for coming out the other end of what must have seemed never ending, I find the information here invaluable and of course it helps to have people going through or have gone through what you/we are. All the best Camille

Hey there, Fistlet me say how terribly proud I am of you. From one recovering alcoholic/drug abuser to another I give you a big . I literally had tears in my eyes while I read this becase I know how hard it isto pull out of the pit. What makes it worses is the Vipers when your tying to climb out. The hadest part forme was feeling aloe because no on wanted anythign to do with me anymore at that point.

I understand what is going on and that oyu want to better you life and yourself for you and your child. If you want to or need to for Atkins or Recovery miryag1@fuse.net your welcome to email me and congrats on 15 months god I remember how good that felt and how proud I was of myself and can just imagine how you feel.
I too quit smoking but I quit 7 months ago in June. It does get easier with everything over time. I promise you if you deny the cravings in the beginning on Atkins you will be able to make it through the rest. To help with keeping you focused I recommend checking out the befoe and after pics of people that have been on Atkins for while, I know it inspires me an gives me somethng t look forward to.
