  • Desparately seeking Me!

    Hi,
My name is Wilma and I am 58 1/2 years young. In truth, I feel old. I am tired of feeling old. I am tired of waking up feeling worse than when I went to bed. I tried Atkins a few years ago and lost 30lbs so I know it works. Why do we not stick to that which we know works? I don't have the answer except in my case it's a matter of always giving in to myself when it comes to food. I procrastinate badly when it comes to doing any kind of exercise. I consider a trip from the couch to the refrigerator as my having done some heavy duty cardio. Believe me, when I push up off that sofa it is hard work, and embarassing to watch I'm sure. I had a wakeup call when I saw my 22 yr old daughter following in my footsteps. She is a beautiful girl and does not deserve to have the life I have lived weight wise. She will miss out on so much. It was her decision to start Atkins. One day she just said, "Mom, we have to do something", so we are doing it together. She lives 3 states away from me but we communicate daily. I truly am seeking the person I know lives under all this fat. I have a mental image of her slowly plowing out from under all the weight. I read the message boards as often as I can. I get strength from you guys. Thank you for writing.

    welcome to the board, wilma!
that feeling of old and tired is soon to be a thing of the past. you're just a few years older than me so i know how much better you are going to feel very soon! but then you know that because you've done atkins before.

you do realize by seeing my username that i am the challenge coordinator. that means i have your couch potatoe number and you'll be hearing from me.

you don't mention how much weight you desire to lose but if it's more than 100 pounds, i know the Century Club would love to have you join their group!

Hi Wilma! Good question "why don't we stick with what works". Dunno, but there's plenty of us "second (+) time arounders trying to get it right this time. Welcome aboard!

        Re: Desparately seeking Me!

Welcome to ADBB Wilma! Thank you for telling us about yourself and your daughter.
It's very cool that you're doing this together, even though you live far from each other. You'll be able to compare notes, recipes etc. and generally support one another. That makes a huge difference!

Post lots and tell us of your progress. Soon you'll be feeling more energetic and exercise will become a part of your daily routine. Starting small and building gradually is the key!
Why not join our pedometer challenge? You set a goal of a number of steps per day... it can be a low number to start with, no problem... you'll find that just by wearing the pedometer and being aware of your steps, it automatically encourages you to walk that little bit more. You get really addicted to seeing the number go up. It's fun. You can get pedometers online from ebay or amazon if you don't want to go to the store to get one.
        Just a thought.

        Happy losing!

          Hi to all,
Just a quick follow up. I weigh 261.5 I would sooooo love to weigh 150, so I am looking at 111.5 to lose. I wouldn't be unhappy with 180, I know you all understand that. My goals are going to be in 10lb increments. To Jimmie48, I WILL take the pedometer challenge and I'm glad you have my number lol, somebody needs to whip me up off the couch. I will also check out the Century Club.
          THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT!!

                  Re: Desparately seeking Me!

Wilma, welcome! Your question why don't we keep up with something that works, has haunted me as well for the last 3 years since leaving Atkins after a 90 lb weight loss. That's why I'm here, because I know it works, and I did keep it off for 1 1/2 years, and this time, I'll keep it off....period! The fact is, that we're all back here, and we recognize that this is a great WOE!
