  • Never done this before!

    Hello everyone.

I have been hanging out and reading everything I have time for here. Everyone has so much advice to offer. Hope you all can help me make this my way of life.
I have done every other diet I can think of and have always lost some weight. But of course it has always managed to find me again.

Last year I was admitted to the sweeties club (the big type II diabetes!) and have worked hard to get my sugars under control. Glad to say that I went to the doctor last week and all of my numbers were where she wanted them. But I still would like to get better control and try and get of some of the meds if possible.

Everything I have read on diabetes seems to indicate that low carb is the way to go for better control.

Here is my dilema. I started last Monday, February 4th and was staying under 20 gms of carb according to my carb counter book. I have only lost a couple of pounds and have yet to turn the ketone sticks any other color. Then of course the weekend came and I had a piece of Popeyes chicken because it smelled devine, and I thought, oh no, I blew it. I took of as much of the breading as I could, and I avoided the potatoes and had a salad instead. I then went to my journal to write down my snafu, but when I looked up the carb count on the chicken it was only 8 for the whole piece of chicken. So that day I ended up at 25 carbs.

Anyway, sorry to be so long winded. Your help would be much appreciated.

    Re: Never done this before!

Hi there and welcome to you. I noticed that you posted that you are staying under 20 carbs according to your carb counter. Are you eating legal foods? During induction, you should only eat foods on the acceptable foods list. This could be why you are not in ketosis.

I wish you the best. I remain accountable by checking in to a daily journal. The added benefits of having a journal is the support and motivation that you will receive from other members!

    Have a wonderful day.

        Re: Never done this before!

Check for other signs of ketosis. Decreased appetite? More energy? Lessened cravings? "Metallic" taste in your mouth? These are all signs of being in ketosis.

Some people have never even used ketostix (myself included) and some people have never been able to turn the sticks colors at all! Follow the plan as intended, and don't fret so much about the sticks.

It's always a good idea to post some menus (3 days' worth) in the Review My Menu section. If there's something that needs tweaking, someone will be sure to point it out!

            Re: Never done this before!

Hi Ana! I also sometimes noticed that I wouldnt change my sticks and not lose much, then randomly overnight drop a few pounds - so hang in there! And definately utilize the "Review my Menu" section. They noticed a few things on mine that I missed completely (...or was ignoring lol)

Also, if you care to join, a good handful of us started around the same timeframe and are helping to keep each other on track and motivated in this thread: Starting 02/10...
