  • Hello everyone! NEW to List

In 1999 I moved to another state, got married and divorced for the second time and also piled on 100 lbs.! Last February I returned the Chicago area and NOW (a year later) I have gotten over my personal pity party.

When I first returned last year I went to a party. There were people attending that had not seen me since I left in 1999. I know many were shocked by my weight gain and I knew it was inevitable that someone would make a comment. Boy was I right! This guy I knew years ago said, "You used to be hot. What happened?" No offense to the guys on this board, but leave it to a guy to be brutally honest! That still wasn't enough for me to get me off my butt and do something. All of 2007 I stayed hidden in my new house. I never even went to the local grocery store for fear that someone from the past would recognize me! I didn't attend any local events for the same reason but it still wasn't enough to motivate me even though I am a very social person.

I gave some half-hearted attempts at dieting but it didn't last one than a day. I was a person who exercized EVERYDAY when I was thin. Not obessively, but 45 minutes rain or shine, plus some weight lifting. That too went out the window when I moved away. My spirit was crushed and I thought I am doomed to have a heart attack or diabetes II in due time.

I had been on Atkins back in the early 1990's when I lost about 25 pounds. I didn't do the lifestyle change and quickly gained it all back, but still was 170 lbs when I left in 1999. So I thought I will give Atkins another try.

I started induction on March 5, 2008. A year to the day I started a new job with my federal agency. I am motivated. Don't know how or why. I just AM! My dog is very grateful that I am walking again too!

I am happy to have found this bulletin board and have been reading all the wonderfully inspirational messages. Thank you for allowing me to join your community. God Bless the Atkins Diet and all the loyal supporters.

    Here's my stats:
    F/51 5'7"
    SW: 276
    CW: 261
    1st goal: 230
    2nd goal: 200
    3rd goal: 180
    GOAL: 160

I feel elated that I have lost 15 lbs! I have the pre-menopause hormone belly and I am thrilled to see you all recommend drybrushing for the skin. I am SO concerned about my stomach just hanging like a sack and chin too, so I started the brushing last night.
    Thank you for reading.

Hiya Petal and welcome. Thanks for posting your story.

Congrats on your good start and kudos to you for starting to walk your doggie again. I'm sure your furry friend won't allow you to stop now... you'll never be able to resist pleading eyes!!

Dry brushing is good. Also, skin elasticity is vastly improved by diet... i.e vits and mins... so eat up your veggie allowance (preferably more nutrient dense stuff than lettuce, which is little more than chewy water) and make the move to the first rung of OWL (ongoing weight loss) soon after induction, where you can have more veggies. Don't be afraid of OWL... many lose even better there, particularly on rung one, and you can stay on the lower rungs for a long time if you want.

All the best for your Atkins journey!

That is quite brutal to say to anyone. "used to be hot", oh boy. That would get this girl on fire. I know once I was at a buffet and was obese at the time. I had two men say "now you know why she is so fat". I had two plates because I was getting my kids food, as I always do first.... tisk tisk @ rude.....

so, with that said... hey idiots are out there. But, you can always prove them wrong! welcome!

Re: Hello everyone! NEW to List

                Hi All,

Sorry it's been so long since my last post. But I am doing very well and I would like to thank everyone that welcomed me so warmly to the group!

As of yesterday my weight is 255! Down 21 pounds since 3/5 and I feel great!
I cannot believe how bad I was feeling (physically) every day. I walk 2x a day for 30 minutes, no breakneck speed, but I'm out there. Gonna start lifting some light weights in a couple of more weeks.

Of course, my obese sister tells me all that's bad about Atkins and I just nod my head and will keep on keeping on. She's very negative, but she ate 3 of the low carb tortillas I found in the store the other day (7 net carbs!) with the super meat chili I made for Easter.

Thank you for the before & after pix: Dream of 145 and SallySeaChange. BEAUTIFUL! I think the drybrushing is working too.

Thank you for the support. Will check back in a week, maybe with a picture. Oh yeah, that's another thing I used to LOVE to have my pix taken when I was thin. When I lose this weight I will not be in hiding any longer!
