Hello my name is Katie and I am a 46yr old mother of 3 and grandmother of 1. I have been married for almost 26yrs, grew up in Northern California and am now living in North Central Florida.

I have struggled with my weight ever since I was 10 yrs old. I did an extreme diet when I was 18 and lost 50lbs in a months eating watermelon and living at the gym. I kept the weight off for 2 years and then got married and got pregnant and my weight got higher and higher with each pregnancy.

I have tried so many different diets in my lifetime having the most success with Weight Watchers when I stuck with the program, my problem is that I get tired of "dieting", and then the pounds return quickly and I end up weighing more than I did when I started the last diet. After turning 40 the weight just doesn't seem to budge. I went back to WW in January and stayed on plan for 4 months and only lost 2 lbs. I have to find and try something else.

I searched the internet for something different, and had decided I wasn't going to pay for anymore diets or pills. I had many preconceived notions about Atkins until I stumbled across this board and went out and bought the book. I was so wrong about what I thought Atkins was. It is a way of living not a diet.

I decided a week ago to clean out my kitchen and take control of my life. I have alot of weight to lose, and will be coming here often for suppport and advice.

    Thanks for reading.
    Katie

Welcome, this board is full of information and support. You are right about it being a way of life. It has changed mine and I'm not even halfway to goal. You not only have the right mindset but you have done your research and that tells me that you are ready to succeed. BTW, Don't overlook the exercise and supplement chapters. Exercise keeps the focus off food, helps to repair your metabolism and prevents loose skin IMO. The supplements are great for healing and giving your body the extra nutrients it needs to flush that fat out. I look forward to getting to know you better and congrats on the success you have had already!

Welcome, Katie ! This WOL/WOE (way of life/way of eating) never ceases to amaze me. There are so many delicious things to eat that I never feel deprived. I'm glad that you've read so much on the board and bought the book.

Based on the goal in your siggy (signature) you should come join us in the Century Club forum. It's for those with 100+ pounds to lose. You can find it under Forums | Atkins for Support | Century Club (100+). We have a daily roll call which I like. You can check in with a quick hello or whatever you feel like that day. It's a daily reminder to me that others are successfully living (and sometimes struggling) with this WOL - I'm not alone.

          Best of luck to you...

                  Katie,

I too had gained alot of weight with each of my 3 pregnancies. I gained a whopping 90 pounds with my first!! Never lost it all and became pregnant a year later, and it repeated itselft once again!

I never really had to struggle with my weight until I became pregnant. I use to be able to eat anything and not gain a pound! Now, I can smell it and put pounds on!

Congrats on starting Atkins, and it's a new way to a healthy lifestyle, not a diet. You will receive tons of support here! Please keep us posted, and add some pics once you're comfortable.

Hi katie, I am 47. I lost 70 pounds with Atkins and then got sloppy and slipped away, gaining about 20 back over two years. I am back on track and wanted to say that I mirrored your experience with WW. A month-no cheats at all, and I lost 1/2 pound. I have to say the weight isn't flying off at my age. I am averaging a pound each week, but I am down ten inches in three months and I feel so much better. I even FEEL thinner even though I may not look all that different. If your head is in it you will do fine, we are rooting for you.
