  • Day one of Induction (yikes!)

    Hello everyone!!

My name is Laura and I'm starting Atkins today

I'm so excited and have read the book up until Induction at least three times (no further yet as I don't want to confuse myself)!

I've been lurking on here for a while and all of the threads are really encouraging, which is good because people who aren't actually familiar with Atkins don't always have the best things to say However, I feel I have educated myself now and am so excited to be starting this.

I'm probably going to be on here for a while as I get to grips with this big change, so please excuse me if I'm clueless at times! At some point today I hope to take some pictures of myself and depending how brave I'm feeling I may post them on here to keep myself motivated!

One question I do have is how to you all decide what your goal weight will be? I guess it'll be a mixture of personal preference and a healthy weight for your height?

Many thanks in advance and hope to hear from you all soon xxx

Hi Barbie!! Welcome to the board!!!
The first few days of induction are the hardest..stick with it and you will see the results you want .
I knew what I wanted for my goal weight..cause it is a weight I once "owned"...I felt and looked fabulous....
    Good luck!

Hi Trisha! Thanks for your response.

I think I know what you mean, I have chosen a weight now that I think I would be happy at, I was at the time and I know it was a much healthier weight for my frame. I'm only four foot eleven so I don't think that has ever helped!!

I'm so excited that I have finally started, it's strange that I have never been so excited about changing the way I eat, but this just feels right! xxx

Re: Day one of Induction (yikes!)

My goal weight is now 20 pounds heavier than the weight where I thought I looked my best. But I am older and my body is way different due to my age and the fact that I own a lot more muscle now. My goal isn't final. If I think I look and feel good at a higher or lower number I will adjust it when I get there. No way of knowing till I get close.

I like to choose small reachable interim goals and shoot for those as my focus. They don't seem so far away and it gives me a reason to treat myself with little perks as I reach each one.

        GOAL TWO 213 (personal goal)
        GOAL THREE 199 ONE-DERLAND
        FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

          Thanks chinadoll

Small reachable goals seem more achievable so I think that's a good idea. I don't have too much to lose but it's still gonna be hard work for me at first. I'm only a few hours in and craving my sugary tea like mad!!!

I think you're right about choosing a more specific goal when you're a lot closer, my goal does seem quite a low weight right now so I think I may re-evaluate nearer the time xxxx

Hiya Laura! Nice to meet you... and nice to have you with us.

I set my goal weight at my pre-pregnancy weight, years before... when I got there though, it just seemed so easy, so I went on down to my "twenties" weight!

                Happy losing!

Thankyou everyone I really appreciate your support

I am now on day two and feeling great! Apart from a bit of the shakes yesterday morning (usually have tea with two sugars - at least three times a day!!). I haven't had any experience of the 'Atkins flue' (?) or what I've read about... Does everyone experience this?? xxx

                            Hi Barbie
Are you taking a multivitamin? Induction can strip you of a lot of vital vitamins and nutrients and that can be the cause for your legs aching. Low potassium can cause leg cramps etc... You might want to look into adding some supplements to your daily routine.

Good luck to you! I am glad you aren't having any flu, I had a headache for the first week of induction but I am now more than a month into this way of eating and feel better than I did when I was a teenager!
