    Re: Overwhelmed

like the others said- ditch the egg beaters- the crab meat probably has additives in it unless it is 100% crab- like potato starch, soy and sugars. and get rid of the low carb drink. I know it is a hassle to cook different meals- i have to. one for my kids, and one for my husband and i- he is not overweight but he eats a version of atkins- we call it half-assedkins- and i am on induction--3 variations at one meal- it sucks but i have to do it until i am through with induction.

with regards to the exercise- what about switching it up a bit. monday, wed, and fri- cardio and tues and thurs weights. Weight training still burns fat- even more efficiently than cardio- and contrary to what many think- you will not bulk up like a weight lifter- you will tone and shape your muscles.

      Re: Overwhelmed

Again, I appreciate all the responses. I actually have something to "do" instead of just think about. I need that.

Cooking more than one meal is not just a hassle, it is expensive. I can't afford it. I have to cook a meal that works for all of us. Perhaps, I add rice to a stew made of beef and veggies for the rest of the family or I make steaks and add sides to theirs that I don't eat, but they have to work together for this to be doable for me at all. I already have to buy new clothes now that the 10/12/14/16/and some 18s no longer fit!

I asked my husband to bring home a couple dozen eggs to keep me going through induction. I am going to grill some steak meat and veggies to eat with it in the mornings. We will see how that goes, since my crab will be inthe deviled eggs.

As far as working out goes, I am trying to do what I used to do, but just don't have the energy. I had a trainer for nearly a year and lifted 3 times a week. It made me so strong. Made cardio just tha much easier. I just can't do it now. I guess I have to go back to the basics and put down the 30lb weights and pick up a 10 or 15 again. God it is such torture!!

I am painting my bedroom today and decided not to go to the gym at all. I think I will redecide that and go this evening, just to maintain consistency.

        Re: Overwhelmed

Hey. Egg beaters are fine to eat. I do. I don't like yolks so I eat just whites and it seems like a waste to throw them out if I use eggs. The only thing is that you should be cooking them with butter or something like that to have there be more fat. Especially since you eat the turkey sausages. I think there is proof now showing that eggs are not such a bad thing for cholesterol... which is quite besides the point here.

The crab thing sounds really yummy... like, fried in some butter with garlic and stuff. I *love* crab and it's so great for this WoL since it almost always involves some sort of fat being served with it.

For the chicken thighs at dinner - you're eating this with the skin, right??

I'm down from benching 135 max to 75 max. It's really depressing. I am so serious though when I say that if you make yourself go for a couple weeks, and I know it's really tough, that it gets better... and then you see the results you've been missing and can start increasing the weights again, and that always feels spectacular.

A book I have says that muscle 'remembers' it's former strength and when you start lifting again, it comes right back. I hope it's true! You're young enough for it to still work, so good luck!

            Re: Overwhelmed

Nope, my thighs are skinless and boneless. Maybe I will get some wings and fry them. For so long I have eaten skinless meat, that I don't think I know how to cook it with skin. Any ideas to make it flavorful and yummy since I will be eating so much of it?

Thanks for the eggbeaters comment. I just had a yoke because I made deviled eggs...yuck! I made myself eat it, but I do not like it. I can't keep eating things that are unsatisfying to me, or I will not stick to it.

              Re: Overwhelmed

I really dislike the yolks. People think I don't eat them for calories or something like that, but it's seriously just the taste. I can deal with them in deviled eggs, but I usually add like, horseradish mayo and mustard to it so it's a little hidden.

I eat boneless skinless chicken boobies. I usually add some sort of cheese, or eat it with mayo, or cook with butter... it was just a random fat increasing question since it really does sound like we have the same habits. I know that I have a recipe for firecracker chicken thighs which is made with the skin on (not that I've ever cooked it that way)... but I can find it when I go home tonight if you want to test it.

                Re: Overwhelmed

I completely identify with feeling overwhelmed.
Its so hard to go backwards and then try to stop the tide coming in.
Its like the strange concept of surrendering your feelings.
I to do something, I see a glimmer of hope, then reality smashes me in the face.
                Today is a new day.
I would love to build a time machine and go back and change everything.
                But I can't.
                All I got is today.
Today I know if I work out I will feel better.
Even if its a small workout.
If I make good choices I will feel better.
And I am smart enough to know if I make bad choices I won't feel better.
I will try to make good choices today, and not try to get sucked backwards.
                Have a great day.

hey there you go- egg beaters with butter! easy as low carb pie!!

I make chicken thighs, breasts- whatever- in the oven- like normal but the last 10 to 15 minutes i broil the skins to make them crispy. i also take the skins off and broil them on their own- they are great.

                      Re: Overwhelmed

ya- i remember reading it somewhere- take the skins off the chicken- or you can keep them on- then turn your oven on broil and let them cook until crispy. the only thing is that you really have to watch them- they spit and drip grease everywhere- in fact i am supposed to be cleaning my oven right now from the mess!

I also like them dipped in a hot sauce butter mixture and dip them in sour cream.

it sounds so sick- eating the skins like that but they are damn tasty!!

                        Re: Overwhelmed

yep, that does sound really nasty...kind of like pork rhinds. I can't eat those either. I can do the chicken baked with crispy skin. I like buttermilk fried chicken, but can't figure out a way to fry chicken without some sort of grain coating. I don't like fried chicken from popeyes or any other fast food place...too much grease...I think that is going to be my biggest struggle here...all the extra fat required. It makes me want to gag. Even mayo has that "you are eating lard" taste in my mouth. I do like butter though...so adding it won't be a problem. Green beans dripping in butter with added almonds will be yummy.

Just be careful to follow the rungs, and not add the almonds and things until the appropriate times.

So for dinner, I am frying some chicken wings with no batter. Then taking a butter, vinegar an hot sauce to make a glaze. Voila! Buffalo wings! I will have some celery sticks and cream cheese on the side to cut down on the heat. All induction safe too!
