    Re: Overwhelmed

It was years ago that I had to do a 'get rid of Candida diet' so I am rusty. But your OB GYN wouldn't notice the kind of candida overgrowth I am talking about. It doesn't consistently present gynecological symptoms. In my case it presented with weird allergies. I would get hives, severe ones, anytime I got physically warm or even just emotional. I mean hives where my eyes swelled shut. If I ate yeasty foods, I would also blow up.. once I ate both pizza and drank beer.. thought I was going to die. It is just basically an overgrowth of candida in a fungal form, which cuts down on the growth of 'gut and body friendly' microbes and can have a vast variety of symptoms. The extreme fatigue you mention can be a symptom. Poor memory, difficultly concentrating, some persons have a lot of 'gut' symptoms, gas and diarrhea, etc.

I can't diagnose you obviously. I just think it is something to look into when a person is trying to eat right but is still shockingly tired. I was in a hurry this morning posting before work, ... didn't know you didn't care for eggs, sorry! Just want to see you get the fat percentages that will get you into ketosis.

Let us know how the spit test works out. You know we have a board here just for candida issues. The Atkins book also addresses the same Candida problem! So it isn't like you would be alone if you had to do the very strict Candida diet for a few days. But if that is part of your problem, and you can clear or severely cut down the candida overgrowth, you will feel a LOT better.

      Re: Overwhelmed

Thanks! I have been reading all morning about it. I did the spit test and according to the test, I do have a candida problem. I then did the symptons list and really didn't find that I had all that many symptoms. I am tired, but I think it is lack of sleep. I am foggy brained, but again no sleep will do that to you. I can't remember the other symptoms.

I am going to do a couple things. One, I am not allowing my kids to eat pistachios anymore. We are already peanut free and have been for 6 years. We were wheat free, and then my husband had a breakdown.

I am going to get a new multivitamin (searching for a whole food one can you help) and do a colon clense. I also want to do the probiotic supplements, though I am a bit leary of it. Need to read more. The idea of ingesting bacteria freaks me out a bit. I also want to take a daily fiber supplement because I just do not get enough on this diet. When I was juicing I had a BM 3-4 times daily. On this diet, I can feel my body compiling waste for days at a time. This is not healthy and one of the main reasons I quit the diet in 2005 for a healthier for me approach. I just can't eat enough leafy greens to give me 25-35 grams of fiber needed each day to help my body digest all the fat and protein.

I would like some kind of supplement to help me in the energy department. Do you know of any that are not caffiene based that will help me be more energetic. I had never drank coffee in my life, then one day I was so tired I tried it, and for about 2 hours I was like a busy little bee and felt so much better. I don't want to get addicted to that buzz and I hate the taste of it, so I don't make it a daily habbit.

Thanks so much for all the input. By the way, you said "a few days" when doing the Candida diet. Do you really think it will only require a few days? I think I can deal with a few days, but the information I read said a few weeks or months.

I am concerned about my husband because he has is taking lamasil for a tonail fungus he acquired years ago in the military. He has night sweats, a white tongue that burns some times and other symptoms. I know he won't be willing do this diet. but hopefully the lamasil will kill off the candida and i can get some probiotics in him undercover.

We will see. Ok, off to fix my eggs and turkey sausage for breakfast. Its 1030 already and I haven't eaten.

        Re: Overwhelmed

Not a big fan of colon cleanses myself, but you know your own body best. Someone recently mentioned that large amounts of vitamin C will get everything 'moving' which is true, and you excrete the excess so it isn't unsafe or anything. Probiotics .. don't think of them as bacteria, but as 'good bugs' that you really really need. They will help get the balance back. I eat flax every day for my fiber needs, and flax has a LoT of fat in the seeds so it helps keep the fat up too. Flax to me is a miracle food, my complexion is awesome when I am eating flax.

Honestly, I recall doing the really strict diet for a week, and it making all the difference. No mushrooms, no dairy, no LOTS of things! I guess you could try for a week and see what happens?

I didn't mean the hydration cleansing. I meant doing a detox. It takes 7 days and I use Total Body Rapid Cleanse by Renew Life. I am not sure what "large amounts" of Vitamin C is. I try to do 1000mg per day.

Regarding probiotics, do you take them? If so what brand and where do you get them from? I use a site regularly for various things for my family. www.nativeremedies.com . Is anyone familiar with them?

I want to find a good multivitamin too. I read that if the vitamin only has 100% of RDA, it was garbage. I needs 1000%. I have not been able to find one.

So today is Thursday, day 3 of 14. I am having some cravings, but only because I see things. My son had to bring 5 of his favorite cookies to school. That was tempting. No cookies come in packs of 5. My husband bought Mrs. Fields. I cooked terriyaki shrimp and veggies with yellow rice for dinner for my family. They were moaning and groaning about how good it tasted. I wanted some too. I made oatmeal this morning. It smelled so yummy. I was able to resist, but it was hard. In the back of my mind a little voice keeps saying, "you are wasting time. This 2 weeks will be just like the first. you won't loose any weight so why not just enjoy the food?" Quieting that voice is difficult, but I am committed to a "clean" induction and am praying that it is a successful one.

Oh, about flax. I can't have that on induction right? I always ate it in oatmeal or oatbran. How do you eat it now? I can't do smoothies either so I don't know how I can get it in. I certainly can't just eat it by the spoonful!

            Re: Overwhelmed

Just got a couple of minutes, not time to find the book. But if you check the Dr. Atkins book in the index under constipation, you will find that a couple of times he recommends a tbsp or two of flax or psyllium or similar, even in induction, if you are constipated...and at least a tbsp to prevent constipation. And who doesn't get constipated doing Atkins? No one I know!

Flax can be ground and mixed with a little water and cooked in the microwave, eaten with cream. This version is slightly slimy...

            This one is better

Flax Cereal (No Pork Rinds Involved!)

but I put mine in the freezer and chill it, so it is like cold cereal when I eat it, with a little cream.

Keep resisting that little voice. Sugar is not your friend!

Listen, I just use the One A Day Womens but take much extra Super B vitamins, some extra C, and sometimes fish oils. Slacked on the fish oils because I learned that flax converts to the form that fish oils would work as in the body. In other words, fish is great, but you can get a lot of the benefit of fish oil from flax.

I hope you kept you some shrimp and veggies seperate from that rice!

Have a good day and I will check in after work!

              Re: Overwhelmed

Hi. If you take 2T of flax meal, add a bit of heavy cream, 1/2 pkt of splenda, and some cinnamon, microwave it for about 30 seconds, it literally is like oatmeal. But you need to eat it before it cools down because then it gets a bit harder. P.S. I am someone who doesn't have a problem with constipation and Atkins (and I haven't even eaten this in months).

You don't need a multivitamin to contain 1000% of anything. You should be eating a good percentage of the vitamins that your body needs, not just getting it from a pill. The reason that the induction vitamins were different than the OWL ones, is just this. As a note, I take a multivitamin (either one-a-day or GNC's women's active), a B-Complex, and Fish oil or Flax oil. In the winter, if I'm around the sickly ones I usually add about 500-1000mg of vitamin c and some (i think about 200-400mg) of zinc.

I wanted to add something about the candida. I have done the spit test repeatedly in my life and had all types of results. Sometimes it comes back that I have a yeast problem according to that, but I actually do just fine with eating more clean. I think that instead of jumping through hoops to try and do some sort of yeast-free diet, to give the Clean induction a shot for 2 weeks is the best way to go about it. Not that you *can't* have a problem, I just think it's better to test again after the clean induction.

                Re: Overwhelmed

Wow, you guys are great. Thank you so much for this information. I believe I can have cream on induction. I will go look to see. If I can, i am going to try this flaxmeal/oatmeal dish. I miss my hot cereal in the mornings. If I can adjust to this, that would be great!

Regarding the vitamins, when i went searching for candida and the cures, I read that I should have vitamins in a capsule instead of a tablet and have 1000% to be any good. Of course there was a link to some vitamins, but I don't buy things that way. I only shop by word of mouth or from a previous good experience. I think I told you guys that I am taking prenatal vitamins, vitamin C and sometimes calcium. I hate taking pills. I have my 2 blood pressure meds too. I just don't want to e like my mother. She has an entire separate purse that she carries with all her pills for this or that or the other.

I know I "should" be eating my vitamins, but I doubt that will ever happen. I need the extra help. I am going to see about getting a weekly shot of B12. I have a friend that does that in the states. Not sure if it is doable for me here in germany.

I am doing the clean 2 week induction. I still here that voice saying I am waisting my time, but I am giving it all I have got. I will do another candida test after, especially if I don't lose any weight like the last 2 weeks.

Looking forward to the flax stuff....that will surely keep me "moving".

I am tired. I want to nap so badly. I was driving and just started drifting. I started to have some coffee but decided against it. I managed and now I am at home and so tired. It's not my body that is tired. My brain just wants to go to sleep. Resisting it is difficult. It might be because I had cheese and turkey for lunch. I am tired like after a big thanksgiving dinner. I just want to go to sleep

                  Re: Overwhelmed

The 1000% is not true. Any vitamin that would be giving you close to this percentage would be water soluble. Meaning, you just pee out the extra, which is a waste of time and energy (and millions of dollars in vitamins). The other things, that are not water soluble, should only be eaten/taken up to 100% since some of them (iron for example) can have serious effects if you ingest too much of it... your body can't eliminate the extra very easily.

As another note - things that are in capsules are covered in a gel coating (usually cellulose combined with some sort of starch).

Since you are taking prenatals (not sure why) it should be really easy to just add a couple other things. I think that the C may not be needed with your normal vits, but you can always check the percentages... or if you are peeing like, neon yellow... I hate taking pills as well.. hence taking only the multivitamin, oil and Bs (3 pills) all the time. The B12 as a shot is not the only B you should be adding (hence Super B-Complex). These can help with a lot of things...

Are you eating your veggies?? There are a lot of higher fiber things (like jicama) that are allowed on induction and will help get/keep things moving.

                    Re: Overwhelmed

I am not eating enough veggies. I just can't find a way to do so. The only one I can think of to eat is salad and I am just sick of it. I am eating spinach hidden in my eggs and stuff like that. You mentioned Jicama. I have no idea what that is. LOL. I have to shop at a commissary because the dollar is just too poor against the euro to shop on the German economy, though fruits and veggies grown here are sooooo much better. If you have some suggestions, I am open.

I take prenatal vitamins because of my hair loss. I thought that the vitamins I took when I was pregnant helped my hair grow and kept me awake at work. Since I am so tired all the time now, I thought this was helpful for me. I don't think it is hurting and I can't think of anything else to take. I read a study once on GNC Vitamins for men and women compared to others and it had less of what was needed than those like One A Day.

I found an induction recipe for rolls. I would love a sandwhich, so I am going to try that one tomorrow.

I might be wrong, I probably am, but my jeans feel much loser today. I am crossing my fingers, eyes, legs and toes!!

                      Re: Overwhelmed

That's the only way you can think of to eat veggies? You can make the mock pumpkin cheesecake in the morning for breakfast (put 1/2c pumpkin puree, 2oz cream cheese, and one egg in a bowl with some pumpkin pie spice. Mix thoroughly - it helps if you nuke the cream cheese for about 10 seconds before you begin. Cook in the microwave for about 2 minutes -until firm). It's really easy, yummy and has veggies.

Jicama is a rootish veggie (it looks like a ball) it can be eaten raw and cut into strips or chips and used for dipping (or eating raw, or with some cinnamon and splenda). Broccoli and cauliflower are great for gnawing upon... raw or cooked with butter. Artichokes, avocado... I made some eggs last night with goat cheese, some onion, garlic, celery and tomato... yum!

I've tried various multivitamins. Most of them have over 100% of the RDA of the water soluble vitamins. I am not sure whether the study you have read means less of vitamins compared to other multis, or less compared to what we need. There's a huge difference. If I only need like, 5g of something, and one vitamin has 5g and one has 10g and it water soluble, there is really no point in me purchasing the 10g one. I really think adding the Super B-Complex will help with the hair/nails thing. I believe that's what helped when I had that happen.

                      Woohoo on your jeans!!

Never thought of pumpkin as a veggie. I am going to try that. I don't have any cream cheese in the house now, so I have to buy some tomorrow. I do like brocolli, but only with gobs of butter. My mind set was on low fat so I haven't eaten it in ions. I also remember cauliflower made to mimic potatoes. Yeah, thanks for the reminder.

Goat cheese? Boy would I love some of that!!!

What is the brand of the super b complex? I haven't seen it on the shelf here. I also thought about a zinc supplement. I read someting about a defficiency there causing hair loss as well.

Don't get too excited about the jeans. They are probably stretched out a bit since I have had them on all day.

I just had my last meal. It was albacore tuna, a bit of cheese and some spinach. Nothing tastes bad with cheese on top. LOL

Its late, I had better say good night. Will chat with you tomorrow. And let me say again that I really, really, really, really appreciate you guys taking the time to help me. I actually feel hopeful. Still crossing everything...but still hopeful. Haven't felt that in a very long time.

                        Thanks!

Can you get radishes? Or even grow some? They are most awesome fried! I saute them in bacon fat and throw in a little onion near the end. They cook quicker than you would think, too! You'll never care about potatoes again! They lose that radishy 'bite' and just taste slightly sweet. Oh, cabbages. Saute'd cabbage is completely different from boiled cabbage. It gets slightly sweet and just so tasty!

You should be able to get a High Potency B in almost any brand line. It will say 'Super B' or High potency B complex. Chili peppers, liver, turkey, tuna are Atkins legal foods with good amounts of B vitamins.

So throw that butter on your brocolli and mash it in your cauliflower and enjoy!

Today I got on the scale and was down 2lbs. Now I know that is nothing compared to you guys who experienced such great loss on induction. But for me, it feels really good to see the scale move a little. The first two weeks i did induction (with my cool whip and slim fast) I lost less than 2lbs. Well, I have 9 days to go on my "clean" induction, so I might lose 5-7lbs right? I am hopeful. Success makes it so much easier to stay on track. Thank the Lord!

I have a really vivid imagination, so just work with me. I could swear that when I lay in bed this morning I could feel my ribs. And when I looked in the mirror, I could swear my collar bones were more prominent. I practice the "secret" so it happened darn it!!!

I also bought some vitamins yesterday. I bought B-50. The bottle said " B Complex " so I hope it is the right thing. The brand is YourLife. That is the only brand sold at the commissary. If you are familiar with it and it is not the right thing, let me know. I will ask a friend at home in the states to send another brand to me.

Oh, and the ground flax seed is moving things along. Thank God!

I had the pumpkin cheesecake and loved it. Now I can't find it in the commissary anymore. I used to buy it all the time because I made pumpkin bread. Now it is not being carried. Bummer. I am going to try to find it on the economy because it is really winner as a dessert or a side dish without the cream cheese. Thanks for that idea!

I really appreciate all of the information and advice you guys have provided me.

I look forward to telling you I lost 5-7lbs this time. But even if it is 3lbs, it is going down one pound at a time. I have had 73lbs to lose (50 of which was regained weight). Now it about 68lbs. That is good news!!!

How do I put my weight tickler at the end of my postings?
