I must have missed why you are eating soy cheese instead of regular cheese? I thought all of the soy cheeses I saw have illegal ingredients listed... maybe yours are safe though?

        Re: Overwhelmed

I was eating regular cheese. My kids are allergic to milk, and buy them soy cheese. I read the ingredients and didn't see anything bad, plus it had way less calories and fat. So I used a slice of it to flavor my eggs instead of the regular cheese. I will give you the brand and stuff in a bit.

I had a snack at 11:30. Wasn't hungry enough for lunch, so I just ate some turkey, a tsp of mayo and a little mustard for flavor. 83 calories/1carb/4fats/8protein 32 oz of water.

I just boiled my egg. I decided to just have 2 boiled eggs on a bed of salad greens with no crab and mayo. I will use a full fat dressing of some kind. Let you know later.

Ok, so the dressing I had was 1TBSP of Asiago Cheese Ceasar by Brianna.

For dinner I had 2 chicken thighs, baked with skin. 6 slices cucumber, 3 slices red pepper and 3 TBSP of Hidden Valley Orginal Ranch dressing. It was satisfying.

I really don't want the cream cheese snack that I had planned. So these are my nutrition facts for the day.

            Re: Overwhelmed

I have to put my 2 cents in too. I've been stuck for 2 weeks and could not understand why. I stopped keeping my food journal and realized I was NOT eating enough fat and too many veggies. I got cocky, so to speak , because I was losing an average of 1-2 lbs a week and then it just stopped because I got lazy.

As far as those shakes, get rid of them. they are keeping you from losing, please take my advice. It's cheaper without them too.
For the cost of 2 slim fast packs I can buy a pot raost and simmer it in the crock all day and have it for lunch all week.
Check out Linda's Low Carb recipes too. The folks here have tons of great ideas for wonderful cheap meals that your whole family can eat!
            We are having wings tonight!
Good luck darlin. I'm pulling for you.

Gotta go with her and others who said ditch Slimfast! Reading your past posts, it look like you already have.

When I started a low carb diet, I thought the shakes would help me get in nutrients and act as a quick meal replacement but I noticed that I wasn't losing weight.

I believe the carbs in all Slimfast products are too high, even the Slim Fast Low Carb drinks. Atkins Induction recommends only 20 Net Carbs for the 14 days. You can check out the website for details. It is possible that you could've been eating well over that owing to the slow/no weight loss.

I haven't read the books recommended by others but i do know some libraries carry Atkins books and also you can read them free with a few trips to a bookstore (that's if they have Barne's & Noble or Border's in Germany lol).

Best wishes! With your determination I know you can do this!

                Re: Overwhelmed

LOL...there are lots of "buche ladenen" Book stores, I just can't read any of the books!

I have an old copy of the book somewhere in a box I think. We built a house and moved in a year ago tomorrow. I still have so many things still in boxes.

I ditched the slim fast and started a clean induction Tuesday of last week. Still not losing...listening to everyone so that I can figure out why...eventually.

I am feeling a bit better. Not sure how to explain it, just a little bit more bright eyed and bushy tailed.

I am planning the same meals tomorrow. Let me know if you see a problem. I am well into ketosis too.

                  Re: Overwhelmed

Oh Simone I think you are on your way! I'm so glad you are feeling better. That's all that crap coming out of your system.
Here's what I eat on a typical day.
breakfast- 2 eggs scrambled with mushrooms and some shredded swiss with 2 beef sausages.
lunch- potroast with mayo. few slices peppers
dinner- baked chicken w/ small salad or cooked veggie on my list

If I'm hungry in between I'll open a can of tuna or eat whatever meat was for dinner last night.
It takes a bit to get yourself going. Give yourself a few days. Patience is so very important. I know how badly you want to start seeing those lbs go, I know! I'm there with you Simone. I wanted to cry for two weeks because I was stuck.

A lot of the long timers have valuable info so you may not have to buy the book. If you've got a bit of time, sit @ this site and read through the old threads. Do you have a library near you? Might be worth a shot to see if they have a copy.

I am praying for you sweetie. I am with you. I'm so glad you did not fall off the wagon, so to speak and stuck it out.
YOU ARE AWESOME AND SPECIAL!!!!DON'T EVER FORGET THAT!!!!

Great idea but I'd think in order to understand Atkins fully it would help to read up on the program a little bit if your going to follow it 100%, then she might get even more of her questions answered as to what is going on with her body. Certainly people who've been at this for some years are great resources and very helpful but most of them had to do a little reading too.

Simone, have you visited atkins.com yet? It's pretty helpful with helping you get started. And are you counting your carbs?

On another note, I understand how you must feel not speaking the native language. Definitely an adjustment! LOL. When we went to Italy recently I was completely lost trying to read all the signs in Italian. Thank God we went with a tour group.

                      Re: Overwhelmed

My sample daily meals if it will help

The flax cereal is my standard breakfast, or maybe the 'whirred eggs' mentioned in a thread. Doubt you want that recipe!

Lunch, Hamburger patty with a little mayo and pickle slices, 1 cup buttered broccoli, or one cup cooked greens (usually turnip)

If I am home, I make omelettes a lot, usually with mushrooms and a little cheese or a mix of red and green peppers

Dinner, Baked chicken breast or a couple legs, romaine salad with parmesan, dressing
or small salad and a few sauteed mushrooms or radishes

Snacks are generally celery with dip, or a baked chicken leg, but really most of the time I skip it, I am not a big snacker. If I get home hungry from the gym, some strawberries and cream, but I am past that stage of OWL. Or I might make a protein shake with the whey protein and frozen berries.

That's pretty much how it runs for me. Some days I get my full OWL complement of 4 cup veggies, some days it is more like induction level 3 cups.

Also remember... muscle weighs more than fat for the space it occupies. If you are exercising enough to 'grow muscle' you will see less loss 'register' on the scale.. but you still lost fat, you just have a little more muscle mass. That would be the best scenario of all!

                        Re: Overwhelmed

Boneless, skinless chicken breast cut into 3 or 4 strips with the same kind of wing sauce will give you the same taste with good protein and better calories. I've been doing this instead of wings at home. It's more satisfying and still gives me that "wingy" taste.

I've been very successful on atkins this month...here is my standard day:

                        Breakfast:
2 eggs, scrambled in 1 tsp butter, with a few diced peppers and onions (about 1/8 cup), 2 sausage links, 12 oz water.

12 oz water between breakfast and lunch

                        Lunch:
2-3 cups of lettuce, with 1 cup spinach (I'm just grabbing handfuls for a cup, and my hands are big), about 1/4 of a tomato, 1/2 celery stalk, 1 hard boiled egg or a can of tuna...topped with 2 tbsp olive oil and a little apple cider vinegar. 20 oz water

12-20 oz water between lunch and dinner

                        Dinner:
1 1/2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, either cooked in a little olive oil or water and garlic, sometimes a little wing sauce, 1 cup broccoli, salad with about 1 1/2 cup lettuce, a little celery or cucumber, topped with a little bit of dressing (2g or less carbs). 20 oz water

Before bed I try to get another 20 oz of water or so in me...I do best when I drink it with a lot of ice.

I'm not exactly sure what all my percentages are, but I know the calories are close and I increased my fat intake and started losing more.

Basically, what I'm saying is trust the people here. They are good people and know what they're talking about. Without knowing me they have dedicated time and energy to listening to me, researching for me, and trying to help me out. I now trust them with my diet, which essentially means I trust them with my life.

                          Re: Overwhelmed

Wow! You guys are awesome. Thank you for all the kind words and encouragement. I am listening and attempting to do all the things I can. Some things I can't do...like eat tomatoes or pork. I just don't eat those things and a few others. You can't get me to eat a brussell sprout. But there are so many other options. SO I think I will get by. When I find something I really like, I can stick to it.

I really liked the pumpkin/fake sweet potatoe deal. It was my treat. But now the commissary only carries pie filling, so boom its gone from my diet. I really like the flaxseed in the mornings. It reminds me of oatmeal and it really fills me up and is satisfying. I went to the commissary and boom, they don't have any. I complained and wrote a letter and they found some in Heidelberg and then promised to always keep it on the shelf. I pray so.

I can always find fresh veggies (not jicama, which I am eager to find and see for the first time). That is a blessing. I can always find fresh chicken and beef. Most other things are in a can or frozen. That is the only way it can be shipped. I'm thankful though. Our commissary is big and has a lot more than other places around Europe.

I also remember Atkins way back when I first came across this WOE. When i was "doing it right" I never got hungry. In fact, I had to force myself to eat to keep from going into starvation mode. When i ate too many carbs, I always craved sugar and wanted to eat more.

Yesterday and much of today so far, I just don't want to eat. I am eating to live, not living to eat. That is a blessing. I think the balance of my life is finally coming.

My mom had a heart attack about 12 days ago. I have 4 uncles: one has had 3 heart attacks and 2 triple bipasses. The other 2 have prostate cancer. My brother (my rock...he is more like my dad than my brother) just got out of the hospital about 4 weeks ago and has discovered that he too has prostate cancer.

I don't say any of that for sympathy, please don't offer it. I say it mostly for myself to hear outloud. All this has happened, and I am still ok. I didn't overdose on twinkies and icecream. I didn't take a hit of chocolate. What I did was prayed, asked for peace and the ability to be what my family needs me to be. This is a major accomplisment for me. My MO is to be strong, I am a very strong person, and have overcome a lot, but in my secret closet I would fall apart and food was my only comfort. I could do my "drug" without anyone knowing and without a fear of the police. But don't get it confused...I was certainly doing a drug. Food numbed me and gave me a quiet place to feel no pain....until evidence of it came in my butt!

So I try really hard to take control of the things I can (food) and release control of the things I can't to God and believe that he will handle it for me. That is a control freak's saving grace.

I have no idea why I just shared all of that...but it felt good too, so it must be ok.

Ok, I need to make myself eat something.

Had a good day. Haven't finished eating for the day and hardly ate much at all. Just wasn't hungry. Guess this working now.

I baked cookies for my boys this afternoon since it is Friday and they have done such a great job in school this week. I made chocolate chip walnut cookies. Guess how many I ate? NONE! I am so proud of me.
