  • Hello

    Hi all,

I am from Canberra, Australia and I have been doing Atkins induction for just over a week. I am really enjoying this and believe that I have made the right choice for me as a lifestyle change.

First week I lost 2.6kg (5.7lbs) and felt great.

This is day 9 and I feel bloated and have gained nearly a kilo back (1.7lbs)... The pants that were loose on the weekend are fitting me again today... On Friday I weighed 86.5kg (190lbs) and today I weighed 87.3kg (192lbs).

Can someone help with what is going on - I thought that weight loss did not stall for a few weeks (I am only on day 9 and it has not stalled it has gone up)?
I drink about 3L of water a day, I take fibre (so no issues there) and I am counting all the carbs (have the printout from the Atkins site) and I am only eating induction allowed foods. I am only having 2 decafs a day with 1 tablespoon of cream (less than 1g carbs).

I would very much appreciate any advice that others have.
    Thanks in advance
    Jodes

    Hi, Jodes, and welcome!

You are probably just retaining water from something you ate--maybe something salty like bacon. Or it could be the time of the month.

These fluctuations are normal, so just keep on doing what you are doing. Remember to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to flush the salt and metabolic wastes out.

Don't weigh every day... it can drive you crazy. It will probably be gone on your next weekly weigh-in.

      Re: Hello

Hi, Jodes ! Great job on your progress so far. I would bet anything that it's ONLY water weight. Please don't worry. Sometimes your body will hold onto excess water whether it's because of excess sodium in your diet, that "time of the month", or other reasons. You're most likely not stalling. I know, you know, most of us know, how wonderful and terrible that darn scale can be . Once I reach a weight I ignore it if the scale goes up a bit (as long as I know I'm staying on plan) because I know it's simply water weight. It's best if we only weigh ourselves once a week, on the same day, at the same time, in the same clothes (or lack of ) - that's coming from someone who weighs herself every morning .

You may want to post two or three days' worth of menus in the Review My Menu thread. That will give others a chance to look over what you're eating and provide appropriate feedback.

Hang in there . You are doing great and will continue to succeed as long as you follow the plan.

        Re: Hello

Hi and thanks for the replies. I know all this - I have been a dieter for as long as I can remember... I have tried every diet known to man and then some. For the record, I don't get that time of month thing going on due to an illness that is now cured - thankfully but it mucked up my system and I am free of it and all the nasty little symptoms that go with it.

I did have bacon on the weekend, so maybe that was it... Will do as suggested and stop weighing myself daily (she says with her fingers crossed behind her back)...

One more question if I may - is it OK to eat one of the delicious looking advantage or endulge bars that Atkins markets - I noticed that they have very few carbs and I would love a chocoate treat from time to time?

        Thanks again for the help

Hi, Jodes. The short answer is no. Sorry.

For the reasons why, here's a thread that discusses the subject in detail. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...have-them.html

            Thanks Sunny_One,
I did not think they would be allowed on induction...

THat is OK. I am fine with doing induction, I am really enjoying eating food for a change (I have been on one of those shake diets and although I lost 10kg (22lbs), my weight loss stalled for over a month and no matter what I did, I just could not seem to lose anymore on that plan.

            THanks again...

I have filled out my signature but I can't see it when I post, am I supposed to be able to see it? - don't worry it is there now

              Re: Hello

I'm so glad it's not a huge disappointment to you!

You do have to get creative to stay happy on Atkins. Have you heard of Linda's low carb recipes? If not, check out her recipes. The ones marked by an asterisk are induction friendly and they will go a long way toward making this way of eating exciting.
