  • Tired of myself

Hello, my name is Lisa. I keep going on low carb, losing 20-30 pounds, falling off and regaining it and then re-losing it. Over and over. I could have been skinny by now. I am so tired of myself. I started Induction on Friday, so this is my day 5. By the book, doing fitday, measuring and weighing and drinking almost a gallon of water a day. I feel really good, couple days ago, not so good, with the induction flu. I have about...........140 pounds to lose. What a daunting goal. Today I bought a bike. Right now, I work 10 hour days, five days a week and my commute is an hour each way. I am literally gone 12 hours a day. I need to encorporate working out in my day i know this. Its not atkins if you don't exercise. However my job is strenuous, i work in healthcare and I am on my feet those 10 hours walking, lifting patients, etc. I am bushed at the end of the day. Anyways, Hello to all and I hope to be around and share your triumphs with you as well as my own and to learn from the wisdom of you all. Nice to meet you all.

      Re: Tired of myself

Hi Lisa -- Welcome to ADBB!!! This is a great place for you to be because we specialize in support and anything else you need. If sounds like you are doing a lot of "exercise" in your job so about the only thing I can add is to take the stairs instead of the elevator and (if you drive) park further from the door so you get some steps in during your walks to and from the building. Purchasing the bike is a great thing! I love mine - I've set up a little table on it so I can have my jug of water, remote and a book to read while I'm biking - it makes my time go faster and I'm less likely to stop because I'm not so bored! I'm so happy you are drinking your water -- make sure it's clear water, not ice tea, coffee, etc. that you are counting!!

I know what you mean about you could be skinny by now.....there are so many of us with that same story! I have lost enough weight in my lifetime that I could have created at least 2 people, and yet, I'm still loosing weight! This is going to be the last time I loose the weight, this is such an easy plan to follow and the food tastes wonderful.

You might want to join the Century Club -- for people who have over 100 pounds to loose...they are wonderful and so suportive!!! You also need to read the 2002 DANDR book, that's the version we follow on this site. Memorize the rules of induction and the list of acceptable food. The easiest way to eat properly is to plan your meals ahead a few days at a time and if you need to, cook ahead also. Take your meals to work, there are great take-along items you can take in a small cooler.

It sounds like you are doing a great job so far -- I wish you much luck. Here are links to some recipe sites -- you'll find wonderful food there!! Just make sure you are eating induction menu's to begin with.

          Re: Tired of myself

Thankyou, all of you. I do plan on going to check out the Century Club. So far, I take all my food to work with me. Its too tempting to eat in the cafeteria. Not alot of good food choices. I try to cook once a week, a few things to keep me going, then fill in with legal snack type things. I have done this so many times, I KNOW what my triggers are. Right now I am trying to for the most part avoid artificial sweetners, and keep an eye out on the cheese intake. My hunger is gone. Yesterday was a really bad day, hectic, and my calorie intake was only 843. Not good. I KNOW my body will shut down. I have to find higher calorie food maybe if I am not going to eat as much I need to look at more calorie dense meals??? I tend to eat all three meals at work. When I got home, it was 730, and I was just too tired to eat. Now if I was not on Atkins, I'd have had a buffet in bed of bad food. When I eat carbs, I can eat all day long without satisfaction. This release from my cravings and hunger is such a blessing.

Hi, MsUnderstood. I sure know what you mean. I'm struggling to get back and stay back myself.

I just wanted to offer one suggestion about exercise: considering your long day, perhaps you can just take about 15 minutes or so on the bike in the morning? Like you, I find it really hard to find the motivation or energy to exercise in the evenings. But, when I can make myself get in exercise first thing in the morning (no, I'm not a morning person)... it really sets me off on the right foot for the day. AND, it's done!

Just something to consider. Good luck to you!

May I just say that that has to be the funniest thing I've heard, only because that's my own life summed up into 17 words!!!

But that's exactly why we are all here - So many of us HAVE lost weight just to gain it back just to lose it again (I have seriously lost count of the amount of times I've lost considerable amounts of weight...)

You CAN do this and this time around, I know for me, it's all about educating myself on the science behind why I shouldn't be eating sugar because I DON'T want to end up like my family and be diabetic by the time I'm 50. (or ever at all!)

It IS possible - and once you really learn WHY you need to do this, it becomes so much easier to truly stick to.

              Good luck and WELCOME!!!!!

This is what I do too, it gives me energy and it feels good that it is done in the morning, that way evening is wind down only.

                  Re: Tired of myself

Thanks, Adena, and everyone else for the tips. I will try that. I got a dvr, to record shows to use it while i watch shows and walk on the treadmill. Its 100% full and I have watched no shows and walked no miles. I know its something I have to do, not an option. I get up in the morning and clean my house. I am always behind the 8 ball. I bought an outdoor bike to ride with my sons. They both got new bikes and have been using them for transportation to their friends homes and to go to work. I have Fluidity also, never have used it. I will get it together. I vow to get it together. That's why I am here.

My house has been much less clean, my health is more important and so is yours. Make the boys do it!

                      Re: Tired of myself

Do a 15 minute speed cleaning (also good exercise!), and 15 minutes on the treadmill!

I do agree about asking the boys for help. If they have jobs, sounds like they are old enough to vaccum or load and unload the dishwasher... consider new options!

I agree with the premise of this question. If someone devotes even 10 minutes a day to some form of exercise they will see results. There may not be enough time for a bike ride every day or a commute to a gym, but some form of exercise is possible even for those with busy schedules. It might require shifting expectations, from being some "Globo Gym" member to doing simple cardio in your bedroom after you wake up, but the opportunities are always there to exercise in some form or another.

                          Re: Tired of myself

I find enough time and energy to exercise everyday....even if it's only a few miles on my stationery bike, 10 or 20 flights on my stepper or dancing in the living room. If you don't have time to exercise, while you are sitting suck in your stomach and hold it to the count of 10, let it go and do it again....over and over - same with your legs, stretch them out, tense your muscles tightly count to 10 and release...you haven't moved but you are doing a form of exercise - and it didn't cost a dime!

Make sure you vary your menu's so you don't get tired of the same thing over and over...drink at least 64 ounces of water day and carve out a few minutes for exercise. Enjoy your road to success!!

HA HA HA, that was sounding just like a Mom who knows. Yea, that is true the boys can pitch in. I will make myself get up and do it. I totally agree my health is more important than a clean house. Honestly, I have really thought about hiring someone to do it, but I just cannot get past how lazy that seems........ I am looking forward to gardening and lawn care adding to my exercise routine. I have half an acre and it needs SOOOO much work. Just waiting for the weather.
