  • I want to get cut in half!

    Hi everybody,

A month or so ago my wife to be and I took a long weekend trip to NYC. Soon after, I started going through the pictures and saw just how big I had gotten over the years, I decided that had to change... now. The first 2 weeks I just cut intake and quit candy, cakes, cookies, ice cream etc. After 2 weeks of that I had lost 10 pounds, but, I knew 10 pounds was not going to cut it.

I did a lot of research and thought I would try South Beach. I discussed it with a friend who had great success with Atkins and he swayed my decision because I needed the more disciplined approach.. so here I am, roughly a week and a half in. Lost nearly another 10 pounds.. yay!

I'm 33, 6'3", big frame. My start weight was 372, current weight is 353 and my ultimate goal weight is 220. My goal for this year is to be out of the 300's, but, my current goal is 350. Almost there!

I've been reading the boards here for the past week. Found lots of encouragment and great ideas. The cravings for sweet stuff is mostly gone, but, I still want breads, pasta and potatos! I gave up my best friend for the past 10 years, Diet Pepsi for Diet Rite ( with Splenda) and Water. still struggling with coffee in the mornings, but, I'm using heavy whipping cream instead of milk with it. I usually only have 1-2 cups a day and if I need coffee at work, I hit decaf and I have a <1g creamer I keep at my desk. At work I keep a 32oz sport bottle at my desk and fill it with water 2-4 times per day.

My daily meals, well, 3 eggs and either bacon, sausage or ham ( currently Easter left overs) for breakfast. Sometimes as an omlet with onion, peppers and a little cheese. Eggs cooked in unsalted butter.

Salad for lunch. Sometimes I bring some meat ( I have turkey today.. also from Easter) but there is a grocery store near my office so I often run over and get a tuna or chicken pouch and eat that.

Dinner is a meat and veggie. Last night I had 2 pork chops and some broccoli.

If I HAVE to have a snack I have pork rindes or I throw some pepperoni in the microwave until they get crispy, sometimes I put just a few flakes of shredded cheese on each one.

But that's it. Nothing less, nothing more.

Here is a picture for now. When I get home this evening I'll remove it or crop my friends out, it's the only one that I really have access to from work. That's me in the black polo shirt ( the younger of the 2 guys). One of my very best friends has ALS and we try to have get togethers at his house from time to time. This year we all TRIED to have a Rock Band concert for him.

Chad, it looks to me like you are off to a very good start on Atkins.

I'm glad you chose Atkins because I've read that South Beach doesn't have the craving control that Atkins does.

Welcome aboard and good luck! Hope to hear from you often.

Re: I want to get cut in half!

Thanks. I want to start exercising a little more than I have been as well. I went out and bought a new bicycle a few weeks ago and have been slowing but surely getting out and riding when it's not cold / rainey... Lately, in Indianapolis, those days are few and far between.

I do, however, walk daily. My office is downtown and we don't have on site parking, so, I have to walk back and forth... I may start looking for a lot a little further away soon!

Welcome to the board. I'm recently new here too. It's great you're taking inventory of your life in this manner and doing something about it. I also got tired of seeing myself in pictures and how big I'd gotten...it really sends the message home when you think you look "ok" then see a ghastly picture of yourself which smacks you back to reality. That's what did it for me, personally - the pictures; they interrupted my delusions about how much weight I had gained. It's easy to look in the mirror, even when overweight, and still envision a skinnier person, but photos don't lie. So now I've decided to go full force and finally get back to my ideal weight. Atkins is definitely the most efficient means of getting there. I think you've made the right choice.

Thanks and good luck to you as well! I'm a realist of sorts, so, I'm not expecting miracles and I'm not expecting anything to happen overnight. The cool thing is, my wife decided to join me with this as well. She just started on Sunday and while this next Sunday will mark 2 weeks on Atkins, I'm going to go 1 more week of induction so we can go through the steps together.

I've sent her the link to the boards here and some good threads for her to read. Hopefully she'll start posting soon too.

Thanks for posting that link, WOW!

I tried to talk my wife into joining, but, she really keeps pretty busy with school.

I usually try to only weigh on Sundays, but, I hoped on the scale this morning and I made it to the 20# mark. Just 2 more pounds to my first goal of 350!

Actually both. It's one of the video game guitars, but, I do have huge hands. My wedding band was a size 15.5.

Re: I want to get cut in half!

hi Chad -- welcome to . You are in a great place mentally it seems so you should have much success with this plan! Make sure you and your wife are drinking at least 64 ounces of pure water a day (not soda, coffee, tea -- W A T E R) that helps flush out all the nasties and will help keep you feeling full inbetween meals. Also, since you are already use to walking to and from your parking at work go out during lunch and walk or at night with your wife. Exercise is a mandatory part of Atkins - we all do it and we all feel better afterwards!

Here are some links that will help keep your menus from getting boring. Best of luck to both of you
