Hi everybody,
A month or so ago my wife to be and I took a long weekend trip to NYC. Soon after, I started going through the pictures and saw just how big I had gotten over the years, I decided that had to change... now. The first 2 weeks I just cut intake and quit candy, cakes, cookies, ice cream etc. After 2 weeks of that I had lost 10 pounds, but, I knew 10 pounds was not going to cut it.
I did a lot of research and thought I would try South Beach. I discussed it with a friend who had great success with Atkins and he swayed my decision because I needed the more disciplined approach.. so here I am, roughly a week and a half in. Lost nearly another 10 pounds.. yay!
I'm 33, 6'3", big frame. My start weight was 372, current weight is 353 and my ultimate goal weight is 220. My goal for this year is to be out of the 300's, but, my current goal is 350. Almost there!
I've been reading the boards here for the past week. Found lots of encouragment and great ideas. The cravings for sweet stuff is mostly gone, but, I still want breads, pasta and potatos! I gave up my best friend for the past 10 years, Diet Pepsi for Diet Rite ( with Splenda) and Water. still struggling with coffee in the mornings, but, I'm using heavy whipping cream instead of milk with it. I usually only have 1-2 cups a day and if I need coffee at work, I hit decaf and I have a <1g creamer I keep at my desk. At work I keep a 32oz sport bottle at my desk and fill it with water 2-4 times per day.
My daily meals, well, 3 eggs and either bacon, sausage or ham ( currently Easter left overs) for breakfast. Sometimes as an omlet with onion, peppers and a little cheese. Eggs cooked in unsalted butter.
Salad for lunch. Sometimes I bring some meat ( I have turkey today.. also from Easter) but there is a grocery store near my office so I often run over and get a tuna or chicken pouch and eat that.
Dinner is a meat and veggie. Last night I had 2 pork chops and some broccoli.
If I HAVE to have a snack I have pork rindes or I throw some pepperoni in the microwave until they get crispy, sometimes I put just a few flakes of shredded cheese on each one.
But that's it. Nothing less, nothing more.
Here is a picture for now. When I get home this evening I'll remove it or crop my friends out, it's the only one that I really have access to from work. That's me in the black polo shirt ( the younger of the 2 guys). One of my very best friends has ALS and we try to have get togethers at his house from time to time. This year we all TRIED to have a Rock Band concert for him.

Actually both. It's one of the video game guitars, but, I do have huge hands. My wedding band was a size 15.5.

. You are in a great place mentally it seems so you should have much success with this plan! Make sure you and your wife are drinking at least 64 ounces of pure water a day (not soda, coffee, tea -- W A T E R) that helps flush out all the nasties and will help keep you feeling full inbetween meals. Also, since you are already use to walking to and from your parking at work go out during lunch and walk or at night with your wife. Exercise is a mandatory part of Atkins - we all do it and we all feel better afterwards!
