Hi everyone,
My name's Sarah and I'm a 29 year old married mother of one.
I've half-heartedly tried the Atkin's diet quite a few times, but always fell flat a couple of days into it for lack of variety! I love food--I enjoy cooking it, trying new recipes, and, above all, eating it! I don't care too much for junk food (like chocolate bars, sweets, crisps, etc) but I do enjoy home-baked treats upon occasion. I've been overweight most of my life--I think from about the age of 8 or so. I was born in the States and lived there until my early 20's and my family, especially my gran, could cook the most awesome, breaded, deep fat fried meals you could ever imagine! I would guess that's 90% of my problem as I brought that legacy with me to the UK and until recently was still cooking those awesome foods.
I've been about the same weight for 6 years, neither losing nor gaining which I find really weird because I go through phases where I'll eat loads of food and even junk, and then I'll go through phases where I can't be bothered to eat all that much. I went on a Get Healthy kick several months ago where I totally cut out anything bad and walked every day, did aerobics (which I detest) and I did this for 6 weeks and lost 1 whole pound
. I went to my GP who gave me the 'you are obviously still eating too many calories and have too high expectations' lecture
which made me so angry I tossed the diet out with yesterday's rubbish and went back to eating what I liked. My health stats are all good, blood glucose levels are great, bp's great, cholesterol is great...it's just my weight!
So, I decided to lose weight yet again and after reading up on different types of diets, I kept turning back to Atkins. I've got the latest UK book. I think it was written in 2003? And I started finding loads of very surprising recipes and marvelous ideas. I decided that I HAD to do this diet and yesterday my husband and I whipped up some of those Oopsie Rolls for the first time and they were great! They gave me hope lol. I'm doing quite well; this is the first time I've ever made it a week into Induction (and I tried this diet back in 1999 for the first time!) and I've lost 7lbs so far and haven't had much of a craving for anything.
Anyways, sorry for the Life Story! Nice to meet you
