  • Hi I am new!

    Hi,
This is my third week on Atkins, I am doing extended induction...but since I have been eating Atkin's bars and I cheated with a little caffeine I am not technically doing induction. Just thought I'd come clean. Anyway, I am loving it; it works for me. I lost 7 pounds in the first two weeks, as I said eating bars and also almonds, but otherwise low carbing--sticking close to 20 grams. I also have had low carb beer.

I have not begun an exercise program yet, but I believe I will start walking today, and I will also begin to stick to induction more vigilantly. The weight-loss has made me feel so good. Also, the diet seems to give me more energy, and I'm not so food obsessed. I weigh myself everyday because I have needed to know that I am progressing, but the up and down can be depressing. This third week I have only seen rising numbers so I have decided not to weigh again until Friday, and implement the aforementioned changes so as not to gain back or fall behind.

I am 36 years old, working mom of three. I have a total of 70 pound to loose. My goal is to be at 150 by New Year's Eve! It's ambitious, I know and I realize that I have to work harder to make it. I may go for 5 or ten more after that. My ketones are purple and I have lost inches; feeling really great but afraid of stalling.

Good luck to everyone, This forum is great.

Please give me your tips, warning or advice if you have anything specific to share. For instance, is upping fat intake a good idea for everyone?

    Thanks.

Hi justfitz, sticking to induction cleanly is not just to give you a faster loss. The foods prescribed for induction are things that are not likely to stall you or cause a gain. So, by starting with a clean slate you know where you stand. By adding foods back one at a time in their proper glycemic order (i.e. you add the stuff least likely to cause blood sugar spikes first) you don't throw everything out of whack. Although you have been pretty good, your weight gain this week could be water retention OR it could be that some of the liberties you have taken ARE having an effect on you. Only way to know is to eliminate them and see what happens. Then add them in in their proper time.

Almost everyone stalls at some point. It isn;t that you have done anything wrong, but sometimes our bodies just aren't ready to let go. If you really want to prevent stalls as much as possible, then do the diet as prescriber in the 2002 book. Period. Best advice you are going to get right there.

PS- the bars are known stallers. I'd toss those out pronto.

Weighing weekly is best if you are frustrated seeing the scale go up and down.

I agree with you that I am less obsessed and feel so much better when I am eating low carb. If you are serious about your ambitious goal, you need to seriously follow the plan.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

The stickies at the top of the Induction area are a good start they don’t detail the entire program http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html.

The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

*take your measurements and get on the scale so you have accurate numbers to start with - don't weigh again until the end of your 2 week induction.
*Eat a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables. Also make sure you get your fats, carbs and protein in daily – www.fitday.com will help you keep track of this.
*Drink 64 ounces of pure water -nothing added daily (Legal water is considered Filtered water, Mineral water, Spring water and Tap water).
      *Take your supplements and
*do some form of exercise daily -- walking, etc..

If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list it doesn’t belong in your mouth – no exceptions! Look at the ingredients list and check it against the acceptable food list -- just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. The Atkins shakes and bars (as well as other brand names of these products) are not legal on induction – there are non-induction ingredients in them and they are not listed on the acceptable food list.

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck.

            Welcome!

Just one note about the ketone sticks -- purple could be a sign of dehydration. Make sure you're getting at least 64 oz of pure water daily.

            Good luck on your journey!
