  • I'm a newbie...

    Hi Everyone,
My name is Holly and I am brand new to the whole Atkins diet/low carb deal. I'm 38 yrs old and in my younger days was very athletic and dieting had no place in my life. Once I hit 30 either my metabolism slowed down or I did. Whichever the case, the pounds started packing on and I've struggled.
I've done Weight Watchers and Nutrisystem, both with great results, but I noticed that neither were delivering the desired results anymore. I could not stop thinking about food, and was thinking I was addicted. I guess I was, addicted to the carbs. So now that I'm on day 6, the carbs have lost their grasp on me and I'm getting into ketosis and I've lost 9 lbs.
I'm 5'4" and my starting weight was 180! I have not seen that number since I was pregnant and I don't EVER want to see it again. My goal weight is 120. I have a long way to go, but hope to stay focused and on track.
So, that's my story. I'm gonna check out some of your threads now. Maybe we'll run into each other on here?
    Peace,
    Holly

Welcome to the Atkins Board Holly.

I hope you’ve read the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR), it’s the book we follow on this bulletin board. If you haven’t until you can get a copy you’ll find a condensed version at the top of the induction -
    (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html.

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin. Check all around the board for everything there is to, there is a challenge section with both exercise and non exercise challenges, Rate My Menu for help with your food, journaling – there is something for everyone

Make a copy of this list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!

WELCOME HOME! and good luck..you will find wonderful support here. Definately get and keep a copy of the book...everytime in the past that I hit a wall I would pull out the book and re-read it. Each time I learned something new. I may even need to buy a new book for this journey...this is my second (maybe third) time around after having a baby (she is 21 months old).

        Success is in site!
